Adv Accountant

MPC is the nation’s fourth-largest refiner and the largest refiner in the Midwest. MPC’s refining, marketing and transportation operations are concentrated primarily in the Midwest, Southeast, Northeast and Gulf Coast regions of the U.S.

• Analyzes, verifies, interprets and processes financial and operating data.
• Maintains records, accounts and ledgers pertaining to various phases of company activity; and prepares related schedules, statements and reports to analyze the results of the activity.
• Exchanges and interprets business information; and promotes effective and timely flow of required operating and financial information.
• Counsels and advises various downstream organizations on consistent and appropriate application of financial accounting policies and procedures.
• Depending upon level of experience and expertise, may serve as a lead and mentor to other accounting personnel.
• Participates in devising and recommending new policies, methods, procedures and spreadsheets designed to improve information and efficiency.
• Work on projects with accounting and/or non-accounting personnel, as required.

• Degree: Bachelor’s Degree preferred; CPA preferred, but not required
• Major: Accounting
• Years of Experience Required: 3 to 8 year's experience in financial accounting work.

Desired Skills:

• Proven analytical skills; Microsoft Office experience with emphasis on Excel skills; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Accounting research skills also helpful but not required.
