Summary
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is an expert with database configuration, synchronization and maintenance of multiple database platforms. Responsibilities include coordinating, monitoring, and troubleshooting database servers. Applies proven DBA best practices, troubleshooting skills, and experience to ensure that enterprise data is available to systems and customers at all times. Ensures databases are available, backed up regularly, and can be restored. This person is also accountable for monitoring database system performance and maintaining database security.
Responsibilities
* Implement and support database components of assigned applications with other associated databases. Plan, monitor, and coordinate all aspects of database operations to include recovery models * Analyze, design, and create reports working with users to provide database and reporting solutions. Provide guidance, direction, and development of strategies and tools required to achieve enterprise wide reporting across all platforms and systems. * Lead efforts in documenting security procedures and data standards specific to organizational database systems. Provide support to program applications that utilize any form of database as assigned. Participate in the initial setup of databases during implementation phases of projects. * Coordinate and monitor backup jobs for all new database implementation, and monitor existing jobs. * Provide technical expertise during upgrades and updates. Heavily participate in all the technical discussions with Epic reporting. Provide SQL Technical and Integration Expertise to other applications as assigned. Provide on-call support for database systems on nights and weekends. * Keep abreast of developments in database and reporting tools. Keep users and IS staff informed of such tools. Maintain a central problem log of ongoing maintenance issues and initiate contact with vendors for software support and problem resolution. Escalate issues to management as appropriate. * Other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidate
* Education: Bachelor's degree required. * Professional Licensure/Certification/Registration: May be required to obtain Epic certification. * Experience: Minimum of five years of experience as a DBA required, preferably in a healthcare environment. * Special Training/Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access databases required. Working knowledge of various technologies and database management platforms, Microsoft Visual Studio, Epic Clarity, Oracle, VB Script, XML, and HL7 preferred. * Proficiency in database management, administering multiple databases on one or more servers, utilization of reporting tool sets (e.g. web based reporting, SQL, MS Access, Crystal) preferred. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required. * Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
