Summary
As Director of Engineering, you will nurture and grow our San Mateo-based engineering team. You will be critical to help us plot technical and product direction, while guiding our team toward success within an established Agile/Scrum process. You will have significant visibility (and responsibility!) across technology and business outcomes in our other offices.
Responsibilities
* Providing technical leadership and direction for the San Mateo teams * Participating in the company-wide effort of building our next generation marketing and advertising platform * Leading architectural improvement efforts on our existing web and email recommendation products * Improving and aligning our development, testing, and release processes * Leading by example, contributing to the codebase through code reviews, pair programming and individual contribution (~25% of time) * Mentoring managers and engineers in their careers * Setting the tone for a dynamic workplace
Ideal Candidate
**What we'd want to attract in candidates for this role:** * You have a track record for growing applications to high scale with fast response times * You have experience scaling a platform across many servers in a virtualized environment * You know the current landscape of real-time and big data tools and approaches * You enjoy people management as much as technical leadership, and have managed multiple teams simultaneously * You are pragmatic and can balance short-term and long-term goals * You have excellent communication and presentation skills and are a dynamic leader with experience in entrepreneurial environments * You are an expert in iterative software methodologies, especially Scrum **Your Experience:** * 6+ years experience managing development teams (including managing managers) building commercial software products * Experience coding in Python, Java, Golang and/or Scala as a key contributor within the last 2-8 years
