Summary
Partner with Sr. Designer to develop initial concept ideas for new products. Develop design concepts, 3D models, and specs for all products within the category. Works with engineering team to ensure design concepts are realistic in terms of manufacturing and production. Bring individual design ideas and inspiration to the MadeSmart team to ensure new and innovative product ideas.
Responsibilities
**Market Research** - Assist in category research in collaboration with Sr. Designer through store visits, trend research, attending design shows, and user interviews. - Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results. - Keep updated on trends, not only in housewares industry, but also other industries (ex. Fashion, architecture, home décor) **Design / Development of new products** - Work under direction of Sr. Designer and in collaboration with design team to interpret rough ideas into visual concepts via sketches and 3D renderings to be presented at informal design reviews. - Contribute to early design phase via quick, rough brainstorming in order to generate a variety of solutions to a given problem **Ideation of products and new product lines utilizing the following key factors** - Hands on problem solving through prototyping and mock-ups - Participate in ongoing critiques and design discussions, quickly implementing revision requests - Material and manufacturing specifications - Sales and tooling time-lines - targeted production costs - targeted retail price **Interfacing with design team** - Interact with engineering team and factories to ensure that the product can be manufactured per design and quality requirements. The intent is to ensure low cost production and short production times, while maintaining quality standards. - Interacts with graphics/packaging team to create dielines and feasible packaging per product. **Prototype new designs** - Sourcing materials applicable to a given product design - Works with 3D printer to create raw prototypes as a testing resource - White sample prototypes for use by Marketing/Sales Team **Presentation Deliverables** - Assist sales team with presentation renders, graphics, and prototypes as needed **Enhancement of existing products** - Designs / develops ways of enhancing existing products in ways to increase a product’s commercial life. (adding features, improving performance, changing physical appearance, or making product less expensive to produce, etc.) culture: - Contributes daily to the “we are a team” environment - Mentors others as needed or requested - Openly shares information with other team members - Helps to create and maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment - Actively participates in staff and other meetings as needed - Performs other miscellaneous duties as apparent or assigned
Ideal Candidate
- 4 year degree in industrial design or related major 1 to 3 years of experience - Proficient in 3D CAD Design Software (Solid Works) - Proficient in Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) MS Office (Excel, Word…) - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, - Well organized, detail oriented with good project management skills - Self-motivated, independent worker with time management skills - Team player - Problem solving skills
