Network Engineer Senior

Working independently under limited supervision, plans, designs, develops, and implements network engineering plans and wide-scale networks for customers. Develops design documentation and training in support of network configurations and new technology introductions. Provides technical support in customer interaction situations, including design, test, and service requests. Works collaboratively with stakeholder organizations on project-oriented assignments to define and implement network design standards and best practices. Identifies and develops requirements for the IT organization for provisioning, inventory, and billing functionality.Debugs and tests networks, plans projects, and performs needs assessments. Regarded as Subject Matter Expert for complete services or service families.

* Develops detailed engineering plan designs and standards by interacting with cross-functional peers both internal and external. * Support the end-to-end product life cycle including support of agile/iterative development process, code and design reviews, unit and system testing, deployment, transition, and production troubleshooting. * Audits and optimizes existing designs by demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. * Identifies and develops functional test requirements and analyzes test results. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. * Provides technical support for complex activation, deployment, and maintenance activities and issues. * Writes method of procedure documents and templates for internal and external execution.

Ability to proactively identify risks/issues and develop recommendations for resolution. * Ability to work nights, weekends, and other shifts as required to provide support for network activities. * As part of the Architecture & Engineering IP Edge organization, the Senior Network Engineer will support one of the world’s largest IP networks. * The Senior Network Engineer will primarily focus on provider edge devices and will be expected to be an expert in a myriad of vendors/technologies: Alcatel Lucent, Juniper, Cisco, BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, etc. Expert, hands-on, familiarity with one or more of these vendors is required (preference given to Alcatel/Juniper). * The Senior Engineer will lead complex projects that enable new product introduction as well as network optimizations. * Lastly, the Senior Engineer will proactively identify areas for network improvement and will drive these changes by leveraging peers and other organizations.
