Summary
Berkeley Lab’s Building Technology and Urban Systems Division has an opening for a Senior Research Associate. Working under the supervision of several research leads, you will support research projects by collecting and analyzing data as well as coordinating outward facing activities related to energy efficiency and sustainability in the US federal sector. You will develop expertise in relevant clean energy technologies and the adoption of such technologies, particularly in large organizations. Using that expertise, you will support, promote, and enhance clean energy technology adoption. Project research areas include: managing organizational change to enhance environmental sustainability, designing and operating energy-efficient data centers, and supporting finance of building energy retrofits through energy savings performance contracting.
Responsibilities
**What You Will Do:** * Perform quantitative and qualitative research assignments such as collection and processing of data along with the analysis to write and/or edit articles, reports, and other outreach material. * Develop slide decks and provide support for conference presentations and webinars. * Maintain and enhance websites including content development, use Google Analytics to create reports, and promote related activities through social media, newsletters, and other channels. * Provide technical assistance related to project areas including help with web-based tools (Center of Expertise for Data Centers and eProject Builder). **Additional Responsibilities as needed:** * Use R and/or Python to facilitate projects, as needed, including maintenance of a database of computers and their standby power. * Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to further sustainability in the US federal sector, including at LBNL. * Develop research questions and strategize ways to further groups’ expertise and activities (e.g., conference papers, journal publications). * Present at select sustainability-related research conferences.
Ideal Candidate
**Required:** * Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years experience in sustainability, energy efficiency, environmental policy, or environmental technology fields; or a master’s degree. * Familiarity with energy conservation policies, practices, technologies, and legislation. * Familiarity with sustainability policies, practices, and technologies, especially in commercial/corporate contexts. * Ability to gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data. * Ability to work on short- and long-term data collection and analysis projects with only limited, general supervision. * Excellent communication skills: ability to interact readily with potential sources in person, by telephone, and in writing. **Additional Desired Qualifications:** * Familiarity with green building policies, practices, and technologies. * LEED accreditation.
