Process Safety Management Specialist

Responsible for the ammonia refrigeration Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs to ensure compliance and with ammonia and refrigeration requirements. This position will also lead Resource Conservation (RC) activities at the plant.

* Ensures all elements of the Corporate PSM program is implemented and maintained * Ensure the utilities maintenance staff and/or outside maintenance contractors maintain the refrigeration system in a safe reliable manner to ensure all Mechanical Integrity (MI) requirements are met to prevent interruptions of daily plant operations * Ensure the ammonia refrigeration system operate at optimal performance, respond to refrigeration system concerns, support Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Critical Maintenance (CM) schedules, job plans and assist utility mechanics as needed * Ensures the maintenance staff is adequately trained on operational procedures related to the refrigeration system * Ensure appropriate actions and recommendations are completed to maintain a safe work environment. Perform safety checks on ammonia refrigeration systems and condensers. Perform regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnostics and troubleshooting procedures on the system * Report on ammonia system operational progress and building concerns, work-loads, schedules and/or interruptions to the schedule. Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range maintenance plans. Responsible for the daily/weekly/monthly and yearly system checks. Oversee the development of ammonia system SOP’s * Reviews operating and maintenance procedures on all utility systems for compliance with environmental, health and safety programs/policies such as lock-out/tag-out, confined space entry, emergency response (including HAZWOPER), hot work program, arc flash, fall protection, and other pertinent safety programs * Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and HR, Environmental, and Safety staff to ensure that ammonia hazards are identified, risk is appropriately managed, and the required 14 elements of the PSM regulation are complying * Direct and lead facility resource conservation (energy, water, waste, recycling) activities, leads the Environmental Team and implements Land O’Lakes Energy Management System activities

**External Experience-Education (Required):** * Minimum Requirements Associate Degree or Trade School Certification * We are seeking a minimum of 2 plus years of PSM (Process Safety Manager) experience or 3+ years’ experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems in a manufacturing facility. **Competencies-Skills (Required):** * Individual should have good organizational skills, be detail oriented, self-motivated, possess good leadership and team skills to function as a team member and leader. * Knowledge of: boilers, electrical systems, air compressors, ammonia refrigeration systems, and PSM/RMP requirements. **Experience-Education (Preferred):** * Bachelor of Sciences Degree in an engineering discipline with 3+ years of PSM experience and 5+ years working with ammonia refrigeration systems working in a food processing facility that required the use of a PSM regulated ammonia refrigeration system. * Current RETA Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification or ability to obtain RETA CIRO certification or similar training is preferred. Individual must be able to maintain certifications.
