Summary
We are recruiting for a Litigation Paralegal to join our Law Department in Louisville, Kentucky.
Responsibilities
* Primary responsibility for assisting with lawsuit and internal investigation discovery, assisting with electronic discovery, and assisting with management of litigation. Specifically, assists Vice President & Litigation Counsel and local counsel with responses to discovery, particularly as it relates to corporate-based information (e.g. corporate history and structure, compliance, human resources, finance, reimbursement, policies and procedures, etc.), assists with internal electronic discovery projects including the implementation of legal holds, and assists with management of outside counsel. * Establishes and maintains a discovery and brief databank to assure consistent use of corporate resources and information by outside counsel across the country. Also, assist with attachment of key documents in litigation case database. * May assist in claim investigations to gather information relevant to defense of claims. Will be responsible for working directly with outside counsel on case discovery and management. * Perform legal research on a variety of issues.
Ideal Candidate
**Experience Desired and Special Requirements:** * Good investigative skills. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with personnel in other departments, facility personnel and third parties. * Familiarity with complex corporate structures. * Knowledge of confidentiality rules concerning health care records (including HIPAA) is a plus. * Experience investigating claims, including, but not limited to, conducting interviews of witnesses is a plus. * Excellent writing skills to prepare correspondence to outside counsel and company personnel regarding information responsive to discovery requests. * Computer skills (e.g., word processing, claims database, Westlaw, Internet, e-mail). Experience with electronic discovery a plus. * Willingness to travel (across the United States) to assist in discovery. * Typing skills to enter notes in claims database and to draft letters and memos and send e-mail. **Minimum Qualifications:** * Minimum of 3-4 years experience assisting defense counsel with discovery matters, particularly relating to corporate clients. * Managing mass tort litigation for national counsel is a plus. * Knowledge of state or federal civil rules related to discovery issues is a must. * Experience with electronic discovery and strong working knowledge of electronic discovery practices is preferred. * Experience working in a healthcare environment, or for healthcare clients, preferably long-term care, is a plus. * Excellent interpersonal and investigative skills in order to track down information required to respond to discovery in lawsuits. * High School Diploma. * Paralegal degree or certification. * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows 2000, Outlook, familiarity with databases and with calendar software.
