Summary
Develop public relations strategies and tactics that maximize the impact of Kimpton’s Florida restaurant story in print, broadcast, online and other media on a national, regional and local level.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities: ¨ Create media-driven public relations strategies, plans, projects and events to drive restaurant awareness, reputation and revenue. Work as a solo department/“mini agency” to research and pitch short-term and long-term campaigns reflecting key messaging in strategic, targeted media outlets. Tactics to support may include researching, writing, editing and disseminating pitches, press releases, media advisories and other press materials. ¨ Serve as primary media contact for all area restaurants, bars and lounges, including overseeing communication strategies for any chef launches/departures, crisis communications and ongoing outreach. ¨ Bring, establish and maintain productive professional relationships with top media, including local, regional, trade and national consumer outlets. Pursue best practices regarding media/deskside visits, journalist dining accommodations, information requests, and cultivation of new contacts. ¨ Create and seize new and existing media opportunities, including public events, media dinners, cocktail development news, and seasonal menu changes and new outlet launches. ¨ Work with related disciplines such to ensure maximum economic impact. This involves developing close relationships with the restaurant marketing team to ensure that campaigns are aligned through digital platforms, collateral materials, and four-walls marketing as well as connecting on common goals with a hotel public relations agency and in-house hotel marketing team. ¨ Organize regular PR meetings with restaurant teams, ensuring the development of viable, customized strategies for each property. ¨ Develop relationships with community and philanthropic organizations that align with individual restaurant brands; recommend participation in key charitable events and oversee coordination of event details. ¨ Coach media skills among chefs, bartenders and managers by developing talking points, offering insights on particular reporters, providing interview feedback and facilitating expert media trainers as needed. ¨ Oversee campaign measurement as well as monitoring of press clips and media trends. ¨ Oversee department planning calendar and up-to-date media lists. ¨ Provide local social media oversight for the properties while complementing broad Home Office social strategies. Must demonstrate an evolving understanding of the way campaigns play out across Instragram, Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets. ¨ Manage a Restaurant PR budget in conjunction with Director of Operations, GMs and chefs. ¨ Assist with some additional duties as needed.
Ideal Candidate
Qualifications and Skills Required * 5 to 8 years of professional public relations and/or marketing experience in a public relations agency, corporation or national non-profit, ideally within the restaurant industry. * Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, business or a related field. * Stellar written and verbal communication skills. Excellent track record of consensus-building for real-world results. * Ability to excel in a fast paced environment. * Ability to lead a restaurant team with soft lines of accountability, including working some nights and weekends as needed. * Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Proactive and resourceful problem solving capabilities. * Fluency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and emerging outlets. An interest in food, the local dining scene and larger culinary trends.
