Responsibilities
Under direction of the Business Unit Manager, the Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for production, quality and delivery requirements for machined components. The supervisor will be accountable for attaining metrics, targets and trends for key parameters of assigned areas of responsibility and for performing Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) as needed to ensure on-going performance improvement of the department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Supervises manufacturing operations associated with assigned area of responsibility, ensuring safety, quality, cost and on-time delivery in accordance with production schedule and customer/company commitments. 2. Develop and maintain personnel and process metrics to ensure optimum group operations and attainment of targets and trends for key parameters. 3. Establish and maintain effective communication among functional departments, management and customers to facilitate early problem identification, slippages, cost overruns, etc. 4. Utilize PDCA process to diagnose problem areas and implement timely corrective measures to offset loss of production and schedule interruptions. 5. Provide information and partner with engineering, manufacturing and quality personnel to ensure quality, cost containment, adherence to schedules and equipment repair/maintenance. 6. Communicate performance status to subordinate personnel and management on a routine basis. 7. Provide leadership and technical guidance to subordinate. Assist the Business Unit Manager in the manpower planning, resource scheduling, budget, and machine shop growth strategy. 8. Guide employees in personnel related issues and provide coaching, guidance and training to subordinate staff to maintain critical skills. 9. Support, model and enforce the company’s personnel, lean, quality, environment and health/safety policies. 10. Ability to obtain information and extract reports from company manufacturing database. 11. Evaluate and oversee repairs of shop machines. 12. Provide cost estimates of machined parts. 13. Assist in tracking departmental budgets and expenditures.
Ideal Candidate
1. Equivalent to high school plus additional broad specialized training equal to 2 years of college. 2. Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical discipline is preferred. 3. Must have at least 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry. 4. One year of experience in a supervisory role is preferred. 5. Must be able to read and interpret complex blueprints. All Positions at Kaman Aerospace Group require access to information or technology that is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and other US government security regulations. These laws do not permit access rights to non-US Citizens or to other unauthorized individuals. Therefore, presently all applicants must be US Citizens or US Permanent Residents (*green card holders*) and/or otherwise comply with ITAR requirements for access rights to be considered for a position.
