Summary
Work under the general direction of the Director of Operations with dotted line direction from the Manufacturing Cell Managers/Supervisors. Is responsible for supporting continuous improvement initiatives for Middletown, CT Manufacturing Operations and, when required, other Kaman Precision Products locations. Lead and support initiatives on the factory floor and supporting functional areas. Implement improvements using Lean tools. May be called upon to assist in preparing cost estimating tasks under administrative guidance from the designated Finance management representative.
Responsibilities
* Lead and participate in scheduled and informal performance improvement events. * Implement continuous improvement methods in factory and administrative functional areas. * Perform Time Studies in the Manufacturing Cells. * Develop and implement standard work processes. * Use and maintain knowledge of various forms and tools to support continuous improvements efforts such as observation sheets, spaghetti charts, standard work combination sheets, Kaizen newspaper and target progress reports. * Support and/or consult with functional staff members performing assessments on proposed processes, including boundary definitions and team composition. * Develop and perform employee training on topics addressing performance improvement, using Lean and Sigma methodologies. * Identify problem areas and issues. * Take corrective action and provide resolution. * Develop and maintain labor standards. * Maintain standards in company IIS system and is responsible for current work center directory. * Assist in providing visibility to management, including but not limited to: * Cost reports * Performance reports * Estimates at completion reports * Trend reports * Projected costs that include use of learning curves * Manpower forecasting and measurement. * Perform capital equipment justification and process capital equipment requests (CER). * Perform make-buy analysis and present to management. * Perform capacity planning, as needed. * Assist production by providing metrics for day-to-day visibility including hours per piece, hours per program, hours per work cell, etc. * Interact and coordinate effectively with all levels of functional groups within the company as well as external customers. * Understand MRP and related business systems concepts and be able to pull relevant reports. * Assist (as needed) in the preparation of proposals, including the accumulation of historical and current data. * Analyze scope of work and individual cost elements. * Maintain understanding of company’s cost accounting system (knowledge of direct and indirect labor/costs) in order to estimate and develop production hours, and costs associated with tooling, quality, tests, packaging, facilities and various ratios.
Ideal Candidate
* General knowledge of a general technical field such as industrial engineering, or manufacturing engineering. * Good working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation application software as well as familiarity with MRP systems. * Good understanding of continuous improvement techniques and possess fluent oral and written communication skills. * Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field. * 1 to 3 years of experience in an aerospace or manufacturing environment with continuous improvement background/exposure, including facilitation skills to lead groups or teams as part of a Kaizen Event/Work Shop. * Knowledge of Time Studies Methodology and Theory.
