Lead Technical Designer

(San Francisco, California)Kabam, Inc. (“Kabam”) creates, develops, and publishes massively multiplayer games that are available to a global audience on mobile devices via its own dedicated channel in the Apple App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore.
The Lead Technical Designer will use a balance of technical and creative skills to create great systems, manage tool development and empower the entire design department to do their best work.
- Collaborate with designers and engineers to maximize the design department’s performance.
- Balance both game vision and technical limitations of the engine to work tirelessly on discovering the best wins that bring the two together.
- Pitch, design and lead teams implementing new features in game.
- Develop technical write-ups and other documentation tasks as needed to help share knowledge both internally and between studios.
- Be design’s leading expert on the platform and engine.
- Work with engineering and design teams to effectively implement new features and systems.
- Provide clear feature documentation, diagrams, wireframes and/or prototypes.
- Analyze player feedback to continually optimize existing game experience.

- This is a senior-level position. The candidate who excels in this role will find ownership in their responsibilities could grow within Kabam.
- Passion for RPGs and MMOs.
- Passion for tools and the technical side of design.
- 5+ years game design experience for a shipped product (MMO or online game preferred).
- Must have shipped at least 2+ AAA titles as a Senior or Lead Designer.
- Previous engineering or programming experience a huge plus.
- Previous scripting experience.
- Familiarity with Unity a plus.
- Ability to analyze gameplay mechanics and feature designs.
- Avid gamer with a solid understanding of game development and game genres.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a creative, collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Able to excel in an agile team environment.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; game design degree a plus.
