Summary
The Configuration Management Services (CMS) team is seeking a candidate that will focus on leading a team of engineers to evaluate and evolve Linux / Unix based Enterprise Configuration Management services and solutions. Must be able to create full configuration management driven system life-cycle service models, ensure technology interoperability and flexible integration with other systems. Proficiency in documentation is a must for existing and proposed configuration management infrastructure. The ability to provide complex troubleshooting/support within all levels of organization.
Responsibilities
* Analysis of the organization's business needs with the capability to translate client requirements for automation use cases into design and implementation plans. * Engineering and architectural development of robust Operating system, middleware and application configuration solutions across multiple teams. * Proactive review of environment to suggest/develop new configuration management policies. * Analyze new emerging technologies in the Configuration Management space and propose functionality of the new technology. * Keep up-to-date on business trends and the latest technology innovations to forecast solutions, and anticipate emerging business changes. * Lead and influence the development of standards and decisions regarding changes to systems/applications, and provide technical leadership and vision. * Collaborate with other technologists to assess current capabilities and bridge the gaps with legacy and future systems. * Knows when to escalate issues or seek assistance from senior management. * Documents medium-to-large scale projects and delivers presentations with minimal supervision. * Can provide feedback and strategic recommendations to management. * Affects change within sphere of influence and leads development of innovative improvements.
Ideal Candidate
**Qualifications** * Experience in medium to large enterprise or service provider of a distributed platform. * Experience implementing highly automated data driven automation. * Minimum of 5+ years professional experience working with Puppet or equivalent (Ansible, Chef, CFEngine Nova). * Minimum of 10+ years experience of Redhat in a large, mission critical global production enterprise (1000+ servers). * Experience of one or both of Solaris or AIX. * Strong understanding of Unix Security and LDAP. * Understanding of security best practices for multi-tiered operating systems. * Advanced scripting abilities with Shell, Perl and Python. * Programming development skills with C, C++ is a plus. * Understanding of backup process, system monitoring, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and scripting for Linux, AIX and Solaris based OS. * Understanding of SAN/NAS technologies and configuration management the OS to support SAN/NAS. * Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and must be able to multi-task and work with minimal guidance. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. * Working knowledge of Oracle clustering and ASM and/or Sybase a plus. * Results driven, ensuring short-term goals are achieved while supporting long-term initiatives with an appropriate sense of urgency. **Desired Skills/Product Skills:** * Configuration Management: Puppet 4, Chef, Ansible or CFEngine Nova. * Operating System: Redhat 5/6/7, AIX 5/6/7 Solaris 10. * Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Tivoli and SNMP. * Experience in scripting and automation such as: PERL, Shell (Bourne, Korn, C-Shell), JAVA, JavaScript, HTML and PHP. * Resource consumption monitoring to support life-cycle management, capacity planning and charge/showback. * Experience with Database tools (Oracle/SQL Server /Sybase) * Application Performance management tool knowledge. * Working knowledge of enterprise infrastructure such as compute (HP, IBM, Cisco UCS) Storage (XIV, EMC, HDS, NetApp), connectivity (Cisco, Brocade) and database clusters (Sybase, MS SQL, Oracle.
