Summary
The Process Engineer will be working with the site printing staff to advance printing technologies, methodologies, employee training and development to achieve “state of the art” knowledge, capabilities and superior operational results. Be a driver of “best practice” implementation. Support and troubleshoot Piezo digital printing processes. Work with suppliers and customers to support related initiatives. Ensure proper procedures and documentation is in place to consistently achieve superior results.
Responsibilities
* Develop a robust process window for continuous flow, Piezo digital printing. Through systematic process experimentation (DOE), process window will be tailored for site unique ambient work environment, ink chemistry and print head model and make. * Drive process improvement methodology to improve throughput and minimize scrap. Knowledge of UV ink, print head capabilities (XAAR & Konica Minolta) and science of jetting ink will be basis for these process improvement activities. * The person in this position must possess excellent communication skills and ability to concisely document acceptable process variation from negative trends in the process. The digital print industry is in the midst of rapid growth and innovation so this person must have technical contacts and technical fluency to guide Waddington Group to form strongest partnerships with print head and ink suppliers. * The person must have strong character and facilitating skills to share knowledge among the TWG sites while developing best practices. Robust process window and sharing of documented best practices will escalate implementation of digital printing technology across all sites..
Ideal Candidate
**Skills:** * Experience in UV curing of ink – mercury vapor and LED (big plus electron beam curing) * Hands on knowledge of XAAR and Konica Minolta print heads * Solid understanding of science behind the jetting of ink (wave length, ink drop size, throw distance…etc) * Understanding of the effects of pretreatment on plastic substrates in regards to wetting of ink and functional quality attributes. * Competencies in pre-press operations * Plus, artwork development software (Adobe or other industry standards) * Solid mechanical aptitude to understand dynamics of the each OEMs machine design and rudimentary physical actions. Not to level to troubleshoot maintenance issue but to see the system approach to the digital print process. * Communication skills that build trust and confidence through all levels and disciplines of TWG. * Drive to be the best and patience and tenacity to build the infrastructure to reach these goals * Enjoy working out at press. * **Education** * Must have Bachelor’s degree (Mechanical/Electrical/Related) or related AS degree combined with a minimum of 5 years listed below. **Experience** * Minimum of 5 years of experience working with UV curing of ink, print heads, jetting of ink, pre-treatment, etc..
