Accounting Manager

(Irvine, California)The Manager is responsible for inspiring a spirit of team work and trust amongst a team of accountants to ensure Corporate Accounting responsibilities are completed accurately and on a timely basis. Primary responsibilities include motivating team accountants to perform at their best, sharing accounting knowledge that allows them to continue to improve their accounting skills and business judgment, overseeing day-to-day accounting tasks, assessing current processes for efficiency, proposing and implementing solutions, and leading or assisting with special projects.
- Oversee the accounting of development, reinvestment, operating capital, tenant improvement and commercial land projects for Commercial Properties in SAP Projects system. Ensure the integrity of cost data by maintaining and overseeing controls for budget setup, contract/PO processing and invoice payments.
- Oversee the accounting of retail and office lease commission, ensuring the broker payments are processed accurately and timely.
- Prepare and submit fixed asset capitalization of capital costs in accordance with Company Policy, in collaboration with Construction, Operations, Tax and Fixed Assets.
- Assist Strategic Planning and Analysis with planning and forecasting for capital projects and Commercial Land, and Tax with capitalization projections.
- Utilize SAP and BI to prepare executive level construction cost reports monthly. Work with BI queries to create ad-hoc reports for consumption and analytics.
- Regularly interact with Construction, Development, Operations and Leasing teams, providing support as needed, answering questions and participating in meetings. Also, lead development project budget status meetings with project managers and executives on a monthly basis.
- Ensure the following month-end and year-end tasks are completed accurately and timely: Journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, fixed asset submission, and reporting.
- Prepare working papers and schedules for the Company’s interim and fiscal year-end financial audit and calendar year-end tax return.
- Participate in and/or lead IT projects. Also, improve technical processes utilizing advanced Excel skills requiring analytical thinking.
- Lead, participate and contribute to other duties as requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required. CPA preferred.
- 6+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years of managerial/supervision experience.
- Strong technical accounting skills. Experience with project cost accounting and capitalization. Advanced Excel skills. SAP experience a plus.
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. Willingness to embrace change and ability to deal with ambiguity.
- Highly self-motivated with a positive team-player attitude.
- Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills. A professional manner necessary for collaborative interaction with external and internal customers.
