Summary
IREX seeks applicants for the position of Project Director to provide leadership and headquarters financial and programmatic oversight to a large media program based in the Middle East. The Project Director will work closely with the in-country Program Manager and staff to implement overall strategy, as well as to ensure high quality program deliverables and results are being met. IREX is seeking a unique candidate with the management experience and capacity to take responsibility for program strategy, work planning, implementation, staff supervision and liaising with donors. The candidate should have skills in program development and management, public communication, and impact assessment. Experience in the Middle East and conflict settings is highly desirable. The position will be based in Washington DC and will involve international travel estimated to be 8-12 weeks per year.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and implement rapid startup of project; * Oversee and mentor staff working on the program, including DC-based support staff and field-based program manager; * Create an atmosphere of teamwork among headquarters staff, field staff, key partners, and beneficiaries; * Ensure all fiscal and performance activities are in compliance with IREX policies and procedures and funder regulations; * Ensure excellence in project results within a context of safe project operations; * Make decisions and provide solutions to implementation obstacles both in the field and in DC; * Manage all areas of budgets, including analyzing projections vs actuals, forecasting and recasting, and preparing modifications (realignments, cost and no cost extensions); * Draft complex documents, including program reports and evaluations; * Negotiate, manage and monitor sub-grants with international and national partners; * Maintain effective relations and coordination with program donors and partners; * Develop and oversee the development of program material, including research and design of training workshops and training manuals; * Brief IREX leadership on project progress, challenges, and successes.
Ideal Candidate
* niversity degree in relevant field, masters preferred * Minimum 7 years’ experience in an international setting, including experience with media and civil society. Experience in conflict setting and the Middle East is particularly desirable * Demonstrated management and supervision skills * Training or other technical skills * Exceptional writing, editing and oral presentation skills, evidenced by professional experience and success * Strong Arabic language skills highly desirable.
