Lead or Principal Visual Designer

Visual Designer is responsible for working with the design and engineering teams to define a consistent and high quality user experience for the da Vinci product line. Their primary focus is to define a clear visual language for both graphical user interface and physical interface elements. A secondary role for the Lead Visual Designer is to serve as a representative of the design team in the development of product collateral, including instructional and promotional materials. The Lead Visual Designer contributes to the definition of corporate brand language and strives to maintain consistency in visual language between the product and its collateral materials. The Lead Visual Designer is a flexible and dynamic professional who strives for innovative and elegant solutions in all his or her endeavors. The ideal candidate is passionate about aesthetics and typography, with expertise in print, branding, web, UI and video.

* **Design world class visual communications.** Maintain superior design standards and methods from brainstorming to implementation. Ensure a thorough understanding of the problems being solved by working with the interaction designers, product managers and the engineering team. * **Design the future of surgical user interface.** Create a strong visual language for graphical user interfaces. Participate in user research and usability testing with Intuitive Surgical products. * **Contribute to the development of the design organization.** Help build a team of top-notch designers at Intuitive. Serve as a mentor for other designers and help them hone their craft. * **Contribute to the visual language of product collateral.** Although the candidate will not be directly responsible for product collateral, the candidate will collaborate with product marketing and instructional design to ensure they are designing high-quality deliverables that elevate, differentiate, and function on-brand and on-strategy.

* Minimum of 12 years of hands-on visual design experience, preferably with UI/UX design for product * Bachelors or Masters design degree preferred * Expertise in a wide array of design fields, including branding, print, web, UI, and video * Expertise in photography, printing technology/methods, and motion graphics are a plus * Proficient in the use of current design tools and software applications * Experience with GUI programming in a prototype environment is a plus * Passionate for delivering the best possible experience to the user * Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
