Senior Designer

- The Senior Soft Goods Designer is responsible for the full spectrum of product development from concept creation, refinement, and design feasibility, creation of drawing specifications and CAD concept drawings. - Responsible for the entire design and development process of softsided coolers, including market research to understand the consumer, identifying color, material, and technology trends, creating trend and consumer profile boards, ideation sketching, understanding of the costing structure, assembling tech packs for hand-off to factories. - Establish the design integrity required to create or follow a cohesive product language with a good, better, best strategy, by delivering products with a point of difference, and in alignment with brand or collection guidelines. - Present design concepts, color and material trends, as well as finished goods to executive team as well as external customers. - Produce competitive analysis materials comparing product with its key competitors. - Recommend and/or conduct product evaluation studies. - Prepare formal recommendations to management regarding product. - Document Control responsibilities to include maintaining drawing number and revision history for Soft Side product specifications. - Communicate with China team and factories via e-mail and Skype conferences during and after normal business hours. - Travel internationally to work in factory sample rooms to ensure that products meet design criteria and project deadlines. - Other duties assigned.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or equivalent experience. - Experience: Six (6) years of experience designing in the soft goods industry. - Portfolio or work will be expected and reviewed: examples of experience in soft side design, technical drawings created in AI, use of color in AI and Photoshop, and hand sketched samples. - Excellent hand sketching skills - strong 2D and perspective sketching skills, quick concept drawing abilities, strong color rendering skills, understanding and ability to create hand drawn control drawings, understanding and ability to create exploded views, and good sense of materials, color and textures. - Strong understanding of drafting principles to include creating product specifications with orthogonal, cross-sections, and detailed perspective views. - Strong Understanding of document control with revision levels. - Must be able to evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications. - Computer skills: Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator. Proficiency in Photoshop. Proficient working with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel and Power Point). - English Language skills: Able to read, write, speak and comprehend English. - Strong presentation and communication skills. - Math skills: Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Must have mathematical acumen to understand make/buy decisions based on material versus conversion cost and domestic versus global manufacturing models. - Physical Demands: General Office environment. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with and managing domestic or foreign suppliers. - Experience designing outdoor gear. - 3D CAD modelling experience. - Experience in apparel and t-shirt graphic design.
