Interior Architect | Hospitality Designer | Retail Designer

ICON Aircraft designs and builds amphibious light sport aircraft.

As an Interior Architect | Hospitality Designer | Retail Designer, you will work very closely with ICON’s Creative Director of ICON Spaces. You will be charged to develop conceptual designs for multiple projects and all related support documentation to realize final concepts. These spaces include production facilities, offices, show rooms, reception areas, work spaces, exhibits, stores and mobile rigs.

You will be expected to energetically and enthusiastically dive into designing an entire spectrum of spaces including exteriors, interiors, signage, graphics, materials and technology. You understand the design development process from research, development, and refinement to sourcing, materials; spec drawings and fabrications drawings to communicate your ideas effectively to outside vendor and contractors.

This role is highly collaborative and requires interfacing with other ICON departments, particularly with Marketing, Sales and Flight Training. You will also interface with outside resources such as architects, exhibit companies and construction firms. The ideal candidate will be naturally aligned with ICON culture, demonstrate mature design sensibilities, skilled ideation capabilities, and the ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.

The Interior Architect | Hospitality Designer | Retail Designer for ICON Spaces is expected to create compelling environmental concepts that generate a future centric emotive response consistently and cohesively that’s on brand and “bad ass”. The design scope spans from exterior and interior architecture to monument design, graphic treatments, colors and materials. High-level design execution is expected to further ICON’s reputation for design leadership and gather prestigious design awards.

Production Facilities, R&D Center and Office Spaces

• ICON is currently building its new headquarters in Vacaville, California. The Interior Architect | Hospitality Designer | Retail Designer will immediately start collaborating with our Creative Director of Icon Spaces to effectively interface with our facility manager, the architect (Gensler) and the individual departments. ICON’s goal is to build a world class R&D Center and manufacturing facility, a bench mark for the industry and a destination for customers and aviation fans.

Global Fightng Training Center (GFC)

• The GFC is the center of the ICON campus. Directly adjacent to our own lake, it will be the Mecca of flight training for sport pilots and the gathering place for customers and fans. The GFC will set the tone for all customer facing spaces.

Stores, Terminals, Hangars

• The Interior Architect | Hospitality Designer | Retail Designer will be tasked to create multiple design concepts that take into consideration all customer journey touch points and result in a refined expression of the ICON brand across signage, furniture elements, displays, material choices, lighting and all related spatial detailing. ICON spaces will include nation-wide and key international markets.

Mobile Rigs, Trade Show Exhibits, Stores and Pop-Up Stores

• ICON needs the flexibility of creating temporary branded environments for multiple purposes; from fly-ins and club meets to sport events and trade show exhibits. The Interior Architect | Hospitality Designer | Retail Designer will be tasked to create compelling exhibit concepts and related assets that can achieve this goal most efficiently and effectively.

General

• Create compelling concepts for impact, function and experience of each space High-level illustration, sketching, 3D modeling and rendering skills to communicate ideas. Effectively interface with outside vendors Refined presentation and graphic sensibilities to build slideshows and presentation decks. Bring an international perspective and awareness of architecture, design, technology and fashion Work to strict design and production schedules and deadlines.

• Preferred Experience & Education
• 4-5 years of relevant environmental and or architectural experience
• BA in Architecture or Environmental Design or relevant experience.
• High proficiency in 3D software (AutoCAD, 3D Studio, Rhino, Revit, Sketchup, Keyshot)
• High proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop
• Ability to execute detailed spec drawings and fabrication drawings
• Ability to create floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections and related support docs
• Previous relevant experience in architecture and/or environment design
• Clear understanding of the processes for designing and fabricating
• Experience in creating branded and/or themed environments
• In-depth knowledge of modern environments created by leading brands and design leaders.
• Understanding and appreciation of premium brands and consumer products
• Empathetic ability and passion for improving the customer experience
• Ability to understand fabrication and construction realities and constraints
