Staff Software Engineer, Back-end Java Search Team

HomeAway is looking for a talented back-end service engineer to join our team in building out the search and caching layers for our traveler-facing websites. In 2016, our team will be focused heavily on search relevance and optimized sort, and we will be running hundreds of multivariate tests to increase bookings on our sites. This is a huge challenge, and we need smart engineers with scientific minds and a proven track record to help us drive even more conversion.

* Owning new features from design to production release * Delivering tested, high-performance code. Our stack satisfies thousands of requests per second! * Instrumenting and measuring code to understand production behavior and performance * Self-managing dev timelines and communicating milestones

* Analytical and skilled problem solver * Java experience preferred, but other modern OO languages are acceptable. We are a Java shop. * Vehement about automated testing * Industry experience delivering back-end services * Comprehension of HTTP, REST, and web services. Experience with Spring and Jersey is a plus. * Experience with Elasticsearch or other Lucene technologies is a plus * Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem is a plus * Experience with modern VCS and build tools
