Summary
The Nurse Manager of the Acute Rehabilitation Center oversees the twenty-four (24) hour operation of the department with accountability for overall fiscal performance and development of related services. This position works in conjunction with the department therapy manager to ensure seamless care for Acute Rehabilitation patients. This position ensures quality nursing and patient care is delivered to all patients on the unit in accordance with professional and regulatory standard, and the philosophy and goals of the hospital. Implements patient care standards, effective staff orientation and continuing education programs. Evaluates staff in accordance with performance expectations and mutually establishes goals. Designs and directs a comprehensive quality improvement program. Develops, implements and maintains budget. Effectively oversees payroll and non-payroll expenses.
Responsibilities
**Essential Functions** * Identifies and provides necessary staff education and orientation. * Commitment to meeting patient expectations as demonstrated by patient satisfaction data. * Complies with all patient safety goals of the organization. * Position may require meetings and rounding outside of normal business hours including evenings/nights and/or weekends. * Provides support and direction for staff in supporting and understanding organizational and healthcare changes. * Assures that nursing and ancillary staff are following policy, procedures, and scope of practice. * Ensures that patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate for the population as outlined in the job description and competencies. * Develops programs, policies, procedures, and standards of care to ensure patient’s nursing care needs are assessed, evaluated, and met. * Works collaboratively with the therapy manager to ensure that seamless patient care is delivered on the unit. **Clinical Care:** * Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients on a 24-hour basis, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag. * Perform other duties as assigned. **Unit/Department Specific** Completes mandatory stroke specific requirements for certification.
Ideal Candidate
**Job Requirements:** * Bachelor of Science in Nursing, at least three (3) years’ experience in an acute rehabilitation setting. * Active and Current CA RN Licensure * BLS certification must be completed prior to Hospital orientation. * Knowledge of principles and methods involved in education, orientation, evaluations, and supervision. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all levels of staff. * Ability and willingness to lead by example. * Demonstrate ability in problem solving, decision making, strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, concepts of business growth, marketing and communication. * Must exhibit coaching and conceptual thinking skills. * Possess analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data relevant to patient care and nursing problems. * Able to demonstrate interpersonal and problem solving skills necessary to interact with patients, families, physicians and co-workers. **Job Preferences:** * At least two (2) years of previous supervisory experience. * CRRN (Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse).
