Summary
The individual in this position will perform a variety of engineering design and project management on the orthodontic components for both new development and sustaining activities. Responsibilities include project management and leadership, developing creative solutions to design problems, ensuring the proper engineering deliverables are generated completely, generation of 3D CAD models, 2D CAD drawings, test procedures, etc, and maintaining schedule and product release plans. This individual will work closely with other engineers, designers, manufacturing, marketing, sales and regulatory staff to assure specifications are met with technically strong, high quality, cost effective designs following Ortho's defined development process.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to development of new designs and/or processes at all stages, from concept creation to production tooling. * Broad use and application of mechanical engineering principles, concepts, theories and techniques to solve problems related to product development, manufacturing, and design. * Full use of project management principles, concepts, theories and techniques to lead project team while maintaining accountability for schedule and budget. * Develops resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems following fundamentals and advanced engineering principles, company standard practices and procedures and related specification. This is completed by exercising judgments during moderate to complex data analysis and testing. * Works under limited supervision from project leader or functional manager and tasks are generally not outlined prior to starting an activity. Work is only reviewed for accuracy and overall content upon completion. * Contributes to the organization and fulfillment of project objectives. Failure to accomplish tasks will typically require allocation of additional resources to correct and/or achieve the project goals. * Ability to manage projects with up to 10 team members, but typically leads teams of 5 to 10. Plans, implements, and executes engineering project leadership through all project phases. Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management. * Evaluates and approves design changes, specification, and drawing releases. Leads reviews of product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications with some guidance for engineering management. * Ensure accurate and controlled documents are generated. Produces design models, drawing details, assembly drawings, and associated engineering documentation with 3-D parametric modeling software, MS Word, EXCEL and MS Power Point. * Requires regular, reliable attendance. * Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required **In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:** * Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures including WorldWide Business Standards. * Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. * Perform the following duties in a professional way, supporting Ortho Organizers’ Quality Policy. Must understand, follow and comply with regulatory requirements as applicable to various processes. An understanding of FDA Quality System Regulations (21 CFR 820) and ISO Standards (ISO 13485) is required.
Ideal Candidate
**Experience:** * Four year college degree from accredited university with 5 to 8 years of work experience or 10 years related work experience as a Mechanical Engineer/Project Engineer. **Specialized Knowledge and Skills:** * Ability to work in team environment as contributor and leader. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from accredited college with 5 to 8 years of work experience or 10 years related work experience in small parts, injection molding, and/or automated equipment design. * 5 years experience designing with Pro-E (Wildfire 2.0 or higher) or equivalent. * 5 years of project management experience with multi-discipline teams. * 3 years of 2-D drafting experience. * 5 years of injection mold component and mold design. * Possess a strong knowledge of mechanical manufacturing techniques including machining, sheet metal, and injection molding. Ability to create and maintain scheduled plans while maintaining quality of engineering deliverables with guidance for engineering management. Excellent decision making/problem solving skills. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Power Point. Experience with orthodontic, dental or medical products a plus. Experience with phased new product development processes from concept through full production release a plus. **Other:** **Language Skills:** * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers or customers. **Mathematical Skills:** * Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. **Reasoning Ability:** * Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. **Other Skills and Abilities:** * Ability to work from both verbal and written instruction. Be hands-on computer literate.
