General Accountant

* Reviews invoices from multiple agencies for appropriate documentation and approval prior to processing payments. * Verifies that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures. * enters invoices ( high volume, with multiple accounting lines) in PeopleSoft financial system, in accordance with State and Federal regulations. * Audits and processes Various credit card bills. * Enters new vendors in PeopleSoft Finacial system, in accordance with State policy. * Handles accounts payable output process, including verification and distribution of payments. * Maintains files and documentation accurately. * Responds to inquiries to provide information to third parties. * Assists with other projects, as needed.

**Technical Competencies** - Knowledge of job-relevant software - Knowledge of coding and terminology - Skill in agency related software (e.G., Excel and Word) - Knowledge of basic accounting principles - Ability to communicate orally and in writing - Knowledge of mathematical skills - Ability to plan and prioritize work - Knowledge of State policies, procedures, rules and regulations - Organization skills - Time management Skills - Problem Solving Skills **Qualifications** * Completion of an associate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in related area; or one year of professional experience in general accounting, billing and collection systems, and /or claims; or completion of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related area. **Preferred Qualifications** * 2+ years accounts payable experience * PeopleSoft or other ERP Financial Software experience * Strong problem solving skills and ability to research and resolve customer issues * Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger procedures and financial chart of accounts * Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast - paced environment, with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
