Summary

The medical staff determines the qualifications of the radiology staff who use equipment and administer procedures. Produces diagnostic radiographs as ordered by a physician following the established policies of the department. Able to provide appropriate care for patients served, regardless of age. Must provide coverage on weekends, holidays and off shifts as deemed necessary to maintain level of department standards.

Responsibilities
  • The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
  • It will be the responsibility of the Technologist to submit to the Technical Manager one month prior to his/her review pertinent information regarding his/her performance throughout the year. This information would include:
    • Letters from Patients
  • Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination and assists in examinations under the direction of a Radiologist, following the established policies of the department and State regulations. Understands and practices proper use of all department equipment.
  • Conducts appropriate patient assessment, care, and teaching relative to imaging procedure and age of patient. Interacts professionally at all times with patient and family members. Assures privacy and confidentiality throughout prescribed examination. Obtains patient history and reviews clinical indication for exam requested for appropriateness. Obtains patients consent for exam. Assesses, evaluates and informs Physician of changes in patient's condition during exam. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Responsible for safety of patients and staff.
    • Observes safety precautions at all times. follows all established guidelines of the ARRT and the ARC. Understands proper use of all equipment, never operating equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's standards. Responsible for pro active response in near-miss reporting. Completes incidents/ occurrence reports within required time frame. Actively participates in performance improvement activities related to patient and staff safety.
  • Contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the department.
    • Completes assignments within a reasonable time frame with minimal errors. Reviews next day schedule making necessary preparations. Exhibits punctuality and flexibility in daily work schedule. Covers on call rotation in a responsible manner. Responding on site within 45 minutes of contact. Maintains work area to promote an efficient operation.
  • Participates in performance improvement, quality control and assurance functions.
    • Performs daily QC of equipment prior to first scheduled exam. Performs all quality control check. At the request of supervisor, participates in quality assurance, performance improvement and CQI activities.
  • Identifies personal learning needs and opportunities for career growth.
    • Responsible for own learning needs and seeks educational opportunities to meet those needs. Attends in-service programs and outside workshops, seminars, training classes, educational programs to keep current in the technical developments in the field. Demonstrates this knowledge by contributing to improved service.
  • Performs all diagnostic radiographs and associated film processing.
  • Following Physicians' orders and Managers directions taking into consideration Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures, identifies the type of examination required to achieve desire results.
    • Verifies patients in a timely efficient manner; identity verbally and by checking patients; wristbands. Patient and/or family learning needs are identified and addressed. Measured by complaints or compliments. Less than (2) complaints are satisfactory.
  • Following direction, the Technologists will be assigned to an area for a designated period and will be responsible for all examinations performed in a quality manner.
    • Maintains clean; caring, quiet professional atmosphere.
Ideal Candidate

Education

Graduate of State Board Approved School of Technology.

Experience

Worked in general radiography, emergency settings, OR and fluoroscopy

Licensure

State of Connecticut Radiography License and hold ARRT certification

Special Skills

Working in a normal clinical Radiology environment to include all procedures and exams in a hospital setting as well as being proficient in synapse technology. Six months (trial period).

Physical Demand

Average Radiology conditions. Lifting of medium weight objects. Intense concentration with instruments or procedures for most of the day.
