Innovation Engineer

You will be responsible for leading groundbreaking research on novel technologies to change the economics of telecoms, ranging from designing lower cost communication hardware to inventing new underground construction technologies or finding new locations and means to deploy fiber. You will also come up with your own industry-changing concepts and work with employees and industry experts to vet their technical viability. You will design systems, generate IP, plan and execute field trials, visit with our customers (i.e. telcos and ISPs) to understand their needs, and work closely with the team PM and Partnerships teams to assess business impact and constraints.

* Study existing Google telecommunications deployments and devise technologies, or deployment models that are an order of magnitude quicker and/or cheaper than current methods. * Develop new technology or deployment combinations that enable novel sustainable internet access businesses.

**Minimum qualifications:** * BA/BS degree in Physics, Engineering or Applied Science, or equivalent practical experience. * 10 years of industry experience in technology or telecommunications. **Preferred qualifications:** * Masters's or PhD in Physics, Engineering or Applied Science. * Experience with robotics and/or autonomous vehicles. * Experience in developing or deploying wired, optical and/or wireless telecommunications. * Proven track record of innovation and capacity to bring new products to market as demonstrated by patents, publications and shipped products.
