Summary
Google for Work helps companies the globe over be more productive, mobile and collaborative by "going Google." Google for Work teams work with schools, companies and government agencies to make them more productive, mobile and collaborative by using Google cloud computing to get their work done. You lead the development and implementation of web-based applications to new Google customers. You lead all aspects of web development, requirements gathering, software development, testing, documentation, training, implementation, ongoing support and maintenance for both in-house and customer-facing web applications. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of Googlers, using UI and functional specs/prototypes as input. Be part of helping businesses the world over succeed by getting Googley. Design, code and prototype the next Google for Work b2b applications as a Google for Work Prototype Engineer for New Mobile/Cloud/IoT Products - think the next Gmail, Google Apps and Google Analytics! Operating as a collection of small, fast-paced startups, this high visibility team is pushing the boundaries of what businesses can do with Google’s help. Our prospective product areas include a broad spectrum from Sales and Marketing Platforms to Big Data analytics to Internet of Things (IoT) to Google Glass for Work. Our team includes Engineers, Technology Managers and Business Analysts who are chartered with delivering solutions. We ideate, design, develop and launch novel, business-generating products. You play a critical role in the development and implementation of new Google Apps for Work. You will work closely with Technology Managers, UX teams and Analysts to jointly develop solutions to some of the most challenging problems in the business world - while using the most innovative approaches and platforms available at Google. You will lead all aspects of system design, prototype development, testing, documentation, training, implementation, and initial support and maintenance, and the best products will “graduated” to its own autonomous, mini-business units. You will also work with our business customers and end users, and will be able to see the impact of your work first-hand. You are an outstanding developer who is excited to work in a fast-paced, startup environment, with a proven track record of delivering robust business applications using web and mobile technologies. You are capable of designing and developing significant, new functionality under time pressure and sometimes ambiguous initial requirements. You are excited about the agility and speed of developing new tools and systems, while building in flexibility to accommodate evolving business needs. You operate with a “user-first” mentality, anticipating their needs, and upholding adoption as your primary metric. You are not afraid of being close to your users and open to input and rapid iteration to get the best solution as quickly as possible.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop rapid prototypes of the web-based, mobile-friendly and/or back-end applications to enhance the cross-functional business processes and Google customer experience. * Collaborate with other Google for Work Engineers on code reviews, internal infrastructure and process enhancements. * Manage the graduation of the prototypes to production, ensuring scalable and reliable operation. * Interact with end users actively to gather immediate feedback and convert into rapid iterations of the products.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum qualifications** * BA/BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience. * 3 years of full-stack web/mobile development using Java, Objective C and/or Python. * Experience in direct interaction with business-facing functions and end users. **Preferred qualifications** * Master’s or PhD degree, further education or experience in engineering, computer science or other related technical field. * Experience building on cloud platforms such as Google App Engine (GAE), AdWords Select (AWS), etc. * Experience in database design and SQL, data analysis and modeling. * Experience with modern client-side/API technologies such as AngularJS, AJAX, cookies, REST, JSON/XML, CGI/Java/ASP servlets. * Robust communication skills in verbal and written English.
