Summary
The Business Intelligence (BI) Systems Analyst II is responsible for the administration, configuration, development, and on-going support of the OLAP reporting and analytical solutions for the business community. The BI Systems Analyst II is responsible for the internal customer facing activities of defining business requirements, proposing development solutions, and validating that these solutions meet the needs of the business. The Business Intelligence (BI) Systems Analyst must have strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills. The team member will have exposure to data mapping, coding, ETL, metadata and electronic report development. The job entails working with all aspects of Data Warehouse administration, business units and enabling groups. This team member must maintain relationships with the super-users (reporting developers) to understand and deliver their reporting requirements, and ensure that they are trained to use the applications in a way that will meet those requirements.
Responsibilities
* Administrate the BI Application systems at AmeriCredit. Provide a stable production environment that meets the performance needs. Resolve production issues responsively, maintain audit/security of the systems, evaluate and make improvements to enhance system performance. Provide Business Intelligence Applications group status of production issues on a timely basis. Provide on-call support as needed. * Working with other internal and external resources, plan and manage BI system implementations and upgrades, license management, security, and future/additional product evaluation for the Business Intelligence applications as needed. * Create documentation for project plans, project status reports, timelines, project issues and risks, change requests, requirements, design, testing plans and test cases as needed for projects assigned. * Provide Business Intelligence Applications Manager with regular and timely status reports and benchmarking metrics of projects, issues, system implementations and upgrades. * Communicate status of production issues with both the business and the Business Intelligence team in a timely manner. * Cross-train with, and serve in backup administrator role for other Business Intelligence Applications team members. Coordinate with backup team members in order to provide seamless and consistent 24 X 7 system support. * Proactively develop, coordinate, and provide on-going training, functional, and technical direction to the super-users (content developers). Proactively develop, coordinate, conduct and/or provide training for all application users on a regular basis. * Define and establish application best practices, required standards, and guidelines regarding the use of, and administration of, the BI tools. Standardize the development process for the content developers. Document processes and standards and regularly provide documentation to content developers and Business Intelligence team. * Research functionality and technical configuration within the BI systems supported by the BI Applications group and prepare recommendations for system improvements whenever possible. * Administrate data loads from the Data Warehouse. On a daily basis, monitor and verify data has been loaded checking for reasonable accuracy. Develop new data loads as needed. Develop and maintain a working relationship with various information support teams to leverage data access and transfer using the BI applications. * Maintain, and monitor production, development and disaster recovery environments. Ensure disaster recovery environments are in sync with the production environment. * Provide assistance to Server Support when needed. * Create and develop content as needed to support the super-users (content developers) and demonstrate system functionality. * Frequently interact with business customers and functional peer groups. **Other Important Duties** * Performs other duties as assigned. * Develop and document effective new and existing operational procedures for BI infrastructure, BI Architecture, and business system requirements (as well as recommendations and proposals). **Reporting Relationship** * Reports to: Business Intelligence Applications Manager * Direct reports: none
Ideal Candidate
**Knowledge** * Must have strong SQL writing skills. * Must be proficient in the use of basic computer functions and Microsoft applications. * Must have knowledge of Business Intelligence applications and BI data models. * Working knowledge of database software (Oracle, SQL server, Informatica, Rapid SQL, etc.) and stored procedures required. * Must understand relational and OLAP database designs. **Skills** * Minimum 5 years combined in general data warehouse, business intelligence report application development. * Minimum 3 years designing, developing, and administering Business Intelligence applications (i.e. Cognos, SAP). * Ability to design and understand data processes including loading, transformations, mapping, etc. * Ability to manage small projects (i.e. upgrades) and perform necessary communication and coordination to management, end users and developer community. * Strong organizational and time management skills. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to train users on BI applications. * Strong problem-solving skills, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. * Ability to create and maintain a well-structured environment through development of standards and procedures. * Ability to write technical and business documents. * Ability to plan, execute, and improve work processes to ensure achievement of business objectives. * Ability to understand AmeriCredit's business, apply knowledge, and critical thinking skills in day-to-day problems and solutions. **Experience** * CS or MIS Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. * 2+ years experience with system administration or development experience with BI (Business Intelligence)/OLAP applications. * IT experience should include maintenance and support activities of performance monitoring and tuning, upgrading versions, software configuration, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning, and general IT processes such as Change Management, Configuration Management, Problem Resolution, and Incident Tracking. * Experience using RDBMS such MS SQL Server or Oracle. * Advanced SQL writing skills required. * User of developer experience with Business Intelligence tools is a plus. * Experience in dealing with multiple business units, technical personnel, and diverse employee population. * Financial Services experience. * Project Management certification is a plus.
