Summary
General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), a market leader and technology innovator, is seeking talented professionals to deliver cutting edge solutions to our customers. GDMS is seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer who desires a creative and challenging work environment using both thick client and web based technologies. The selected candidate will work on the on Imagery Exploitation Support System (IESS) or similar programs. The work focuses on maintaining an installed software development baseline with minimal new development.
Responsibilities
* Work within a small team of software developers, installers, and system administrators to maintain the IESS program * Provide fast responses to site problems and software corrections * Thoroughly understand the IESS architecture and quickly identify where problems exist and correct them * Complete smaller changes required to keep IESS current with other interfacing systems * Provide front-line customer support * Identify, isolate, and analyze system and software maintenance problems * Assist site personnel in the preparation of performance reviews (PR's) in accordance with documented procedures * Install, integrate, and test emergency patches, mandatory updates, and routine maintenance releases to the system * Perform various system administration tasks (system backup, file restore, stop/start Sybase database, shutdown/restart system, etc.) * Provide occasional on-site system support as required by Government customer * Perform software related maintenance tasks * Assist in the development of Help Desk and site operational procedures
Ideal Candidate
**Basic Qualifications:** * The Senior Software Development Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer or Software Engineering, or a specialized area, field or the equivalent and eight to ten years of related experience or a Master's degree and six to eight years of related experience. **The successful candidate must have:** * Familiarity with object-oriented design using unified modeling language (UML) based tools and middleware products such as Apache Tomcat or JBoss * Experience with the C programming language and the Java programming language * Knowledge of Sybase, SQL, and stored procedures * Knowledge of Graphical User Interfaces (GUI), particularly with Java Swing and X/Motif * Experience in J2EE/Java with distributed/n-tier application development * Working knowledge of industry best practices and design patterns * Practice with service oriented architectures, including XML/SOAP * Good communication, writing, and cooperative/collaborative skills * Ability to travel to support meetings and software deployments **Qualifications (Preferred):** * Knowledge of Java Server Pages (JSP) * Experience with COTS based SOA and/or work-flow management tools desired * Excellent customer relation and telephone skills * Ability to work in a team environment while providing one-deep on-site support * Ability to work independently without close supervision * Ability and desire to resolve IESS customer problems expeditiously * Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
