Summary
**What we’re looking for:** Our Web Development Immersive course is a life-changing educational experience where our students learn the skills and mindsets to take on new careers as web developers. WDI has grown significantly in San Francisco, now serving 75-100 web development students per quarter. With multiple courses happening at once, we are seeking a Market Lead to support, advise, and train WDI instructors, as well as interact with the global team. This role will be responsible for increasing consistency across our growing program, and helping to scale the program while providing support to the instructional team.
Responsibilities
**Instructor Support:** * Support instructors to grow in their technical teaching abilities through workshops, observations and 1:1 coaching. * Lead WDI curriculum trainings for new instructors. * Share the ownership of instructor culture – ensure people feel happy, motivated, productive and successful. * Work with instructor coach to observe instructors, and help set goals for improving instruction (either increased technical learning or improving teaching effectiveness on particular topics). **Instruction:** * (student-facing instruction will comprise less than 20% of this role) * Demonstrate master teaching techniques to new instructors by teaching critical lessons throughout the cohort for others to observe. * Deliver lessons to students to test experimental content, demonstrate teaching techniques to new instructors and lessen the lecture load for each cohort. **Curricular consistency:** * Ensure consistency in scope/sequence/curriculum across WDI instances. * Participate in every cohort’s planning process. * Work with the global team to help the local market implement curriculum standards and ensure all local instructors informed about global WDI updates. * Enhance the local curriculum, develop new and update existing materials, create and update documentation, and help facilitate reflections on newer delivered lessons. * Share learnings and resources back with the global product team and participate in discussions between markets to help move WDI forward. * Make recommendations for changes in curriculum and oversee any curricular experimentation. **Program Growth:** * Support admissions, outcomes and recruitment teams by providing the WDI instructional perspective.
Ideal Candidate
* Experience as a technical mentor and coach * Experience teaching in an immersive context * At least 2+ years of experience working on a software development team. * Topical expertise in current WDI curriculum content including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) algorithms, at least one advanced framework (Angular, Backbone, or React preferred) and industry best practices. * Knowledge of advanced teaching techniques and the ability to recognize excellent teaching and areas for growth in others. * An eagerness to shape the skills and trajectories of WDI instructors. * Comfort working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Must be able to wear many hats and switch between contexts easily. * Excellent communication skills, ability to give and receive feedback with a focus on growth mindset. * Able to keep others accountable through follow-up and ensure that commitments to students, product and other team members are met. * Management experience preferred.
