General Assembly
(New York, New York)General Assembly is a venture-backed, NYC-based startup focusing on education for individuals and enterprises in the areas of technology, design, and entrepreneurship. We currently have physical classrooms in 15 cities across 4 continents, with tens of thousands of students coming through our doors.
This role is responsible for guiding students and providing expertise across the three key sections of the online course: Data Analysis, Working with Databases, and Communication and Contextualization of Data.

Live Lectures

Hold live lecture sessions with students to work through challenging problems and roadblocks via group video discussion

Facilitate a dynamic and collaborative classroom community in an online setting

1:1 Sessions

Work with students 1:1 via video chat helping them through the weekly exercises and multi-week projects, as well as provide feedback on their assignments

Coach students; maintain a positive classroom culture and strong student morale

Feedback on student work

Provide students with meaningful and prompt feedback on their progress

Respond to emails from students on questions about the curriculum and their projects in a timely manner

Resource Curation

Provide students with resources to support the development of their final project that will showcase their abilities to hiring managers

Inspire students to persevere through the challenges of turning their ideas into actual data dashboard or data-driven presentation

This individual should be an expert in Excel (or other spreadsheet software), comfortable working with SQL, and an excellent communicator with a unique design mindset for building effective data-driven presentation and building influential data dashboards.
The successful candidate must know how to:
- Design and execute focused tests to provide actionable insights
- Communicate findings to all stakeholders including team leads of product, engineering, finance, and executive teams
- Assist product team in prioritizing tasks based on analytical evidence
- Build and maintain reports that pull data from multiple data sources
- “Exceptional skills in Excel”
- Data analysis skills preferred (i.e. pivot tables and development of simple data queries)
- Advanced knowledge of SAS, SQL, Microsoft Access or comparable analytical tools
- Must have experience or familiarity with SQL or other relational database
