Responsibilities
* Experience and competency required in operating Hurco CNC Lathe (TM18Li) and Hurco CNC 5-axis mill (Vmx60Swi) for machining new parts or making modifications to existing parts. * The machinist will be responsible for performing these duties in a safe manner and keeps all employees aware of dangers in work area. * Practices good housekeeping in assigned area and properly disposes of waster according to safety and environmental policies. * Must participate, support and sustain a high level 5s. * Properly inputs labor. * Promptly reports any operational problems or safety issues with machinery, tools or equipment to Team Leader. * Assists with orientation and teaches other Machinists proper techniques and procedures in mastered areas. * Fully competent in the function of Machinist III * No direct reports, but usually assists with orientation, training and checking work of less experienced staff. * May serve as a lead. * Most of work is not subject to direct check. Errors may be serious and involve damage to equipment, waste of material, late delivery, excessive costs, etc. operations autonomously with limited access to consultation regarding machine operation. * Ability to program using conversational language/ Hurco WinMax control is required. * Must also be able to set proper speeds and feeds, and specify proper tooling when using these machines. * Must also be able to autonomously operate manual mills and lathes for primarily modifying existing parts. * Reviews procedures, work orders, blueprints, set-up sheets and DBI’s (Data Base Information) and receives verbal work instructions to plan the job layout with as few set-ups as possible. * Reviews the NC program printout if necessary and identifies possible errors. * Performs programming or program editing at machine controls if needed. * Independently selects the correct machine and tooling to do the job. Gathers required tooling and fixturing or places order with tool room if necessary. * Sets-up machine as required using prescribed detail and operating procedures. * Calculates speeds, feeds, depths of cuts and tapers for machining. * Identifies the type of material being used and performs hardness testing. Corrects or modifies tooling call-outs, offsets, speeds and feeds to allow for variations in the material. * Performs diversified machining operations on an HBM or any other machine and finishes complex parts that include exact placement of features, tapers and tolerances of less than .005”. * Consistently meets or exceeds manufacturing, safety and quality targets. * Uses measuring devices to check all part dimensions. Performs and evaluates all Level I Non-Destructive Testing evaluations on finished part. * Completes all Inspection documentation in a timely and accurate manner. * Reports non-conformance's to Quality department. * Uses material handling equipment to move parts and components to and from work area. * Performs all **Main Tasks** * Autonomously machines parts using Hurco CNC lathe and 5-axis mill, and manual lathe and mills. Uses basic shop tools to prepare or post process parts after machining is complete. * Uses measuring devices and inspection tools for assessing conformance or condition of parts. * Provides consulting to engineering on machinability of parts. Makes recommendations to facilitate the machining process. * Spends 100% of time in shop. Exposed to possible shop hazards, which may include high noise, heavy equipment and machinery, and shop traffic. * Stands, walks and bends 100% of time. Lifts up to 50 pounds manually, uses material handling equipment for over 50 pounds. Climbing 15%. Vision correctable to 20-20. * Most of work is not subject to direct check. Errors may be serious and involve damage to equipment, waste of material, late delivery, excessive costs, etc. * Interfaces with all functional areas to troubleshoot, communicate, and recommend resolution to complex problems.
Ideal Candidate
* Six years machining experience with at least four years in a similar environment and/or up to four years in-house experience. * Must have at least two years machining experience with Hurco CNC lathes and mills, including setting up and using related programs. * Must demonstrate ability to interpret complicated drawings with multiple views and machining surfaces. * Must be able to run all mills or lathes with one control. * Run all manual machines to complete a part with little or no supervision. * Must understand and practice geometric tolerance. * Must be proficient with gages and measuring instruments. * Be able to perceive the part function and be able to suggest better ways to improve the same function. * Must be able to set up and run using all ITS tooling, right angle head and ejector drill without any supervision. * Must have the ability to process necessary information from machines control and edit programs accordingly. * Forklift and crane operation experience and certification required. Must have passed all classroom and hands-on training. * Training will be provided for FMC standard Operating Procedures. CNC Programming (possible). Training to use more advanced testing and measurement equipment. May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development. Note that the candidate must have existing training and demonstrated competency in using and programming Hurco CNC mills and lathes.
