Summary
This position is for a Civil Structural Engineer at Texas City, Texas with piping understanding. This individual will be part of the core team to grow the office presence and responsible for Civil Structural Engineering and Piping design efforts of multiple projects at local customers, supporting both Plant Engineering Services (PES) managed projects and/or local Marathon or Fluor projects. This position requires an individual to be able to effectively function in a matrix environment. They must be able to interface seamlessly with the client’s organization, while in parallel representing the business interests of Plant Engineering Services (PES). This individual will be expected to work closely with the PES Project Manager, Fluor team leader for Fluor projects, Client peer level team leader and the Operations Manager to assist in identifying PES resource needs (staffing up or down) based on the client’s project volume and mix and be responsible and account for work efforts in a safe and quality manner. As part of project execution strategies, it is the expectation this individual will make every effort possible to identify and support the use of PES or Fluor resources from the available regional offices.
Responsibilities
* Engineering support with an emphasis on Civil Structural Engineering. * Develop, evaluate and improve on execution, delivery and implementation processes for a cost effective work effort. * Assures system and product quality by defining acceptance requirements. * Prepares project reports at the request of Project Managers by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. * Provide design input directly to small size projects that do not require outside engineering support. * Follow client and contractual specific project requirements. * Responsible for assuring that multiple solutions (pros and cons) are considered to address client project goals. * Assure that issues and concerns are addressed in a timely, open and honest manner. * Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations. * Assists in the development (mentoring) of less experienced PES resources on site. * Promote PES capabilities within the client’s organization. * Provides regular updates to Project Managers through regular and clear communications. * Evaluates Civil Structural applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of soils, structural and construction. * Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements. * Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications. * Inspect completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards. * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. * Contributes to the overall team effort (PES and Fluor) by delivering promised results. * Be willing to accept other (reasonable) client defined duties not covered in this job description.
Ideal Candidate
* Bachelor of Science in Civil/structure Engineering from an accredited university. * Candidate will be required to complete PES training requirements related to Fluor’s Operating Systems Requirements (OSR), Project Management, Change Management and other core PES training courses. * Bachelor of Science in Civil/structure Engineering from an accredited university. * Candidate will be required to complete PES training requirements related to Fluor’s Operating Systems Requirements (OSR), Project Management, Change Management and other core PES training courses. **Other Job Requirements** * Must be able to use Cesar software package * Conduct and manage investigations involving buildings, structures and structural components, including structural analysis, damage assessment, building code compliance, lab and field testing of construction materials, and review of structural designs. * Must have a experience of AutoCAD. A working knowledge of AutoDesk Revit MEP, AutoPipe is a plus, but not a requirement. * Knowledge of strengths of materials, specialty support design, fluid dynamics, corrosion principals, piping vibration analysis and stress dynamics, 3-5 years of piping related work experience in the refining, oil & gas industry. * Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. * Must have a working knowledge of project management principles (schedule, cost, etc.) and common planning tools such as Microsoft Project or Primivera. * Must have good verbal and written communications skills and be able to present ideas effectively to clients and management. You will interact with clients and other consultants, manage multiple and unique projects, and prepare written reports summarizing your analyses. * Must be able to estimate and deliver on estimate on electrical, instrumentation and controls budgets. Must be able to provide proposals to customers. * Must be a self-starter and be able to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision. * Must be able to function effectively in a small team environment where the success of the team takes precedence over individual accomplishments. * Must have recent Fluor engineering process experience to meet Fluor quality standards. * A Texas PE will be required to be obtained 12 months from date of hire. **Preferred Qualifications** * The candidate must be “local” to Texas City area. * The candidate should view this as a long-term opportunity. However, no guarantees can be given regarding the duration of the assignment. * There will be no relocation, per diem or other travel related cost except those related to and funded by a specific client approved projects.
