Summary

The Controller will report under the strategic direction of the CEO and the tactical direction of the operational director. In this newly created role, the Controller will partner with the CEO and department leaders in strategic planning, effectively interpret and communicate data, and manage all day to day financial functions. The individual in the role will be responsible for finding opportunities to cut costs, enhance efficiencies, and plan for the future, while managing cash flows, projections, and reporting

Responsibilities
  • Financial Planning & Analysis:

    • Budgeting and Projections
    • Financial Statements and Valuations
  • Bookkeeping:

    • Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable
    • Cash Flow Management
    • Maintaining General Ledgers
  • Employee Financials:

    • Employee Payroll
    • Expense Management
  • Projects:

    • Cost-Benefit Analyses
    • Systems and Infrastructure
    • Best Practices Standards
    • Vendor Contracts
  • The Resources:

    • We currently use systems such as Quickbooks, Intuit, Bill.com, Nexonia, and of course, Excel. While these systems have worked for us, we also respect the Controller’s expertise in understanding both our business and the most effective resources and tools -- our philosophy is to build efficiencies in the areas that can be automated to free up our time and minds to think creatively and drive the business forward.
    • We also have a team with CPAs, Financial Planners, former investment bankers, and excel aficionados to tap the minds of.

  • Mission-Driven – industry background is not required, but having an appreciation for the value of being part of an organization having a positive social impact is a necessity

  • Strategic decision maker – can assess goals, risks, and rewards, and will leverage knowledge to apply the spirit of the law in effective business decision making
  • Real, humble, and transparent, and can find humor in everyday situations
  • Can thrive in ambiguity and see opportunities over obstacles
  • Self-directed and proactive, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Through creative problem solving and effective simplicity, constantly look to create meaningful results
  • Tremendous integrity and loyalty, along with strong intrinsic motivation and sense of ownership
  • Able to properly give constructive criticism and take it as well
  • Experience working in a small, growing company, with a preference for entrepreneurial environments preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred) with a minimum of 7-10 years of related professional experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP Accounting
  • CPA and/or MBA is a plus

Additional Notes on Compensation

The total compensation for the position ranges approximately from $85,000 to $123,250, including an $85,000 base salary and a comprehensive quarterly and annual bonus program. Additional opportunities exist to participate in the success of the busine
