EBSCO has an immediate opening for a talented Software Engineer-Java to join our ranks in our Durham, NC office. The mission of the Senior Software Engineer is to play an integral role on an Agile team responsible for the architecture, design, development, testing, delivery, and operation of products within EBSCO’s rapidly expanding medical technology product line. The successful candidate will create information products and services that inform the world, advancing research in traditional and emerging fields and transforming learning and education.
- Provide expertise on system architecture, design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operation of dynamic medical/healthcare point-of-care products.
- Work directly with product management and your team while analyzing and decomposing complex software requirement into simple stories for planning and execution.
- Collaborate with your team to manage and estimate the size and complexity of the features. Perform the technical design, implementation, and testing of features and commit to stories can be accomplished in an iteration.
- Be the technical leader for product features, responsible for ensuring that development activities are coordinated throughout the development cycle.
- Own system and feature quality throughout the development, testing and deployment phases to ensure quality delivery expectations are met.
- Drive value and build to continuously improve the quality of the team’s deliverables.
- Conduct new technology research, proof of concept, and design work that will provide direction for the enhancement of the overall system and products.
- Contribute to software engineering best practices for design, coding standards, performance, security, delivery, and maintainability.
- Live the principles behind the Agile Manifesto and SAFe framework in all interactions.

Requirements:
- 3-5+ years of experience in specification, design, development, and maintenance of high-quality, mission critical web applications with demanding requirements.
- 3+ years of professional web development experience on the Java technology stack.
- 1-2+ years of front end web development experience.
- 1+ years hands-on experience in an Agile team environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms including AWS, Azure, or similar.
- Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as React, Backbone, Angular, etc.
- Experience with Agile testing best practices: TDD, ATDD, unit testing, etc.
- Solid experience with Git or similar version control systems.
- Hands-on experience with Spring or similar Java application frameworks.
- Experience with CI-CD tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Hudson, etc.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and/or domain-driven design.
- Strong knowledge of OOA/OOD and SOLID engineering principles.
- NoSQL platform experience.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, including an ability to look forward and anticipate problems and assess risk.
- Knowledge and/or experience with Scaled Agile Framework for Enterprise (SAFE).
- Bachelor's Degree focus area in Computer Science, MIS, or technical discipline.
