Data Platform Engineer

Earnest is a technology enabled lender that evaluates a person’s full education, employment, and financial profile.

We’re looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to implement the next generation of our data platform. You will build foundational technology on which Earnest performs real-time machine learning for risk, fraud and marketing purposes. You will be responsible for implementing command line and HTTP APIs used by other Earnest teams to access and manipulate data and deploy their models to production.

In this role, you will be working on our data team made up of data scientists, software engineers and data engineers that decide how our models work best. We believe this allows for people to take greater ownership and approach problems creatively. We find value in code reviews, pair programming and paying down technical debt. Every day we are deploying code and launching features with few internal bureaucratic barriers to get closer to our vision of a better, more just bank. * Solid CS fundamentals * A BS/MS/PhD degree in CS or related discipline, or relevant experience * Expertise with Javascript, Node.JS, and client-side development in a production environment * Experience with data platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, Amazon SQS, Spark Streaming, or related technologies * Experience building, shipping and maintaining command line utilities or HTTP APIs of reasonable complexity — for fun or professionally) * Capacity to work with various data storage technologies including relational databases such as PostgreSQL and column stores such as Redshift * Interest in continuously learning how to implement the latest technologies into our tech stack
