Summary
The Network Engineer Senior installs, analyzes, evaluates and supports network communications including LAN/WAN systems for assigned business area or program.
Responsibilities
**Principal Accountabilities** (Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.) * Evaluates current network systems to propose and implement network system enhancements * Defines, designs, and implements network solutions * Applies advanced network engineering and architecture knowledge on complex and diverse problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. * May oversee network systems projects. * Designs, installs, supports, and maintains new network hardware and software infrastructure. * Provides network solutions to business and management requirements. * Allocates network resources, monitors network performance and usage, and ensures most cost effective and efficient use of network resources. * Ensures all IT equipment complies with industry and regulatory standards. * Troubleshoots, analyses, and resolves faults in operational networks. * Ensures routine preventative maintenance and license compliance is performed. * May provide training and technical support for DI Operational Programs to ensure network and IT systems perform as required. * May work closely with the corporate technical services and development staff to ensure proper network operations. * Performs other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Knowledge & Skills** * Advanced skill and knowledge in systems may vary by assigned contract. * Prefer CISCO and/or other Cisco Certifications and Microsoft Professional Certifications * Ability to remain current on CISCO and Microsoft platforms * Demonstrate independent problem solving skills * Demonstrate good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers * Ability to uphold integrity and confidentiality with access to all information on the network **Experience & Education** * Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline. Two (2) years experience in a related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college * Five (5) years’ experience required in network engineering * Additional experience/education may be required by assignment or contract **Physical Requirements/Working Environment** * CONUS: Generally works in normal office environment, but may be required to travel domestically and internationally on short notice, to austere environments, under harsh living conditions * OCONUS: Some positions will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions **Travel** * Ability to travel domestically and internationally
