Technical Standards Manager

Doosan GridTech™ delivers control system software and power system engineering services to help distribution utilities integrate distributed energy resources, such as solar and wind power, into the grid. Our control software for energy storage systems (ESSs) runs patent-pending algorithms that help utilities maintain power quality on circuits impacted by solar and other renewables, while taking full advantage of energy storage and other distributed energy resources.

We currently have an outstanding career opportunity for a Technical Standards Manager, responsible for advancing open standards within our technology stack and the industry at large. Use your technical leadership skills to enhance our Company’s leadership position in designing and advancing open technology standards for the digital distributed grid. Work closely with industry stakeholders, utility customers and our engineers to identify the benefits of open standards for customers and suppliers, realize these benefits in our product designs, and see your solutions deployed with real-world power system operators. We require a deep technical understanding of modern communication protocols, an excellent ability to build consensus across broad stakeholder groups and good working knowledge of professional software development. Desired capabilities, including power system engineering skills, are a strong plus.

• Represent Doosan GridTech in industry standards organizations and processes; communicate Doosan standards innovations to industry; identify industry standards from which Doosan products can benefit.
• Work closely with stakeholders – utility customers, industry technology suppliers and our engineers – to identify and drive consensus for open technology standards that deliver business benefits for both customers and suppliers
• Develop and author specifications, and work closely with our engineers to incorporate standards in our product designs
• Work with outside organizations to create standards certification tools and programs
• Help to secure industry R&D projects that implement standards

Required

• Deep technical knowledge of wired and wireless communication protocols
• Excellent ability to collaborate and build consensus across diverse, industry-wide stakeholder groups (customers, suppliers) and standardization efforts (MESA, SunSpec, IEC 61850, etc.)
• Good working knowledge of professional software development processes and tools
• Strong customer engagement and listening skills
• Excellent analytical skills, judgment and ability to drive trade-off decisions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work within a small, fast-paced team to deliver customer value
• Willingness to travel periodically

Desired

• Power system engineering skills
• Experience with utility-scale energy storage, utility-focused product design or delivering technology-driven products (hardware or software) for the electric grid
• Understanding of dynamics of distributed energy resources within electric grid operations

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of direct experience designing and/or implementing communication protocols
• Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead consensus-driven technical stakeholder processes
• Experience with electric power system or distributed energy resources strongly preferred
