Summary
This role will be responsible for supporting active research, development and licensing programs. This includes a variety of responsibilities such as collaborating with engineers, attending standards meetings, interpreting technology standards documents, assisting our case managers in supporting a worldwide portfolio of patents and patent applications related to our audio technology. A successful candidate will be someone with a background in electric and audio engineering with in-depth understanding of spatial audio, digital signal processing, and sound perception. Responsibilities will entail design, programming or testing of audio, video or voice codecs.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with Dolby engineers attending standards meetings. * Assist Dolby’s patent case managers with drafting claims directed to standard documents in new patent applications as well as provide advice on amending claims during the prosecute of pending Dolby patent applications. * Advise on the acquisition, development, and commercialization of third-party technologies and related intellectual property matters. * Advise and analyze on third-party patent claims against products and technologies together with standard documents * Prepare claim charts and conduct due diligence related to potential acquisitions * Support patent licensing and enforcement activities. * Assist with providing information and training to internal groups as necessary, regarding technology included in varies standards documents. * Provide such other technical support as may be assigned. * Collaborate with Dolby engineers attending standards meetings. * Assist Dolby’s patent case managers with drafting claims directed to standard documents in new patent applications as well as provide advice on amending claims during the prosecute of pending Dolby patent applications. * Advise on the acquisition, development, and commercialization of third-party technologies and related intellectual property matters. * Advise on third-party patent claims against products and technologies. * Support patent licensing and enforcement activities. * Assist with providing information and training to internal groups as necessary, regarding technology included in varies standards documents. * Provide such other technical support as may be assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Requirements:** * MS in electrical engineering with an emphasis on digital signal processing or bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience, especially in the area of audio and/or video signal processing. * Demonstrated ability to conduct original research in audio, video or voice signal processing in the form of technical papers, products, standards documents or patents. * Excellent writing and communication skills. * Self-initiative and ability to work with minimum of direction under pressure. * Superior organization and project management skills. * Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. * Strong interest in learning new technologies. **Additional Desired Qualifications:** * Previous exposure with acoustics and sound reproduction, principles and techniques as well as psychoacoustics / audio perception, as well as scene-based audio formats, including Ambisonics. * Experience in intellectual property licensing and litigation. * Experience in standard bodies and patent pools * Experience drafting claims charts
