Summary
The Science Channel publicist will handle the development and execution of press programming outreach to help reach and grow Science Channel’s television and digital audiences while building brand awareness and loyalty. The ideal candidate for this position should be energized, well organized, curious, creative and results-oriented.
Responsibilities
* Execute daily press activities for the network programming, working both collaboratively and independently to develop and implement publicity campaigns via traditional and digital media * Write and developing key communications materials * Staff talent during press events * Collaborate with other Science Channel divisions, including programming, production, marketing, research, and digital/social media, to implement strategies that ensure consistent messaging and identification of cross-promotional opportunities * Plan, develop and execute comprehensive, creative and strategic publicity campaigns for assigned projects, working closely with internal teams * Screen and identify compelling video clips to break science news from programming and secure digital coverage * Pitch and field press inquiries for Science Channel series, specials and talent * Build and maintain media lists (Science, TV, digital, space, technology) and establish solid working relationships with key contacts * Plan, write, and distribute press releases, materials and press kits * Staff and assist with talent press interviews and talent appearances at network events * Oversee press mailings, and assist with press monitoring, press list creation and other responsibilities with dept. coordinator as assigned by Vice President of Publicity
Ideal Candidate
* At least 3 years hands-on publicity or media relations work experience; experience with space, technology and science related content is highly valued * Results-oriented self-starter with a dedicated work ethic and highly collaborative style * Must be detail oriented, orderly and handle a complex and ever-changing workload in a timely and efficient manner with strong attention to detail with each project * A demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and be able and willing to work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously * Organize and/or help organize press events including media tours, science and technology industry events, presentations for the twice-yearly Television Critics Association tour and various network screenings * Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills * Solid project management skills * Ability to cultivate and sustain strong relationships with members of the media * Must have legal right to work in the United States
