Summary
The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is an environmental sciences research organization that is seeking an analyst/programmer to support the Applied Innovation Center for Advanced Analytics (AIC). The AIC is an expert resource in digital technology applications available to individuals and organizations in the public or private sector. The AIC provides contract research and development services supporting innovation in applied data, visualization and computational analysis, helping translate scientific ideas into practical solutions. The hired individual will help maintain and support a computing and visualization infrastructure that includes a graphics cluster, immersive virtual reality systems and advanced computing systems.
Responsibilities
* Assist clients with programming and computing problems particularly relevant to environmental science and engineering * Become knowledgeable of different software applications and computing technologies considered important to Applied Innovation Center projects * Contribute to design, development, testing, maintenance, and support of developed software * Work both as part of a team and on individual projects * Manage multiple programming projects simultaneously * Assist in systems administration and business development activities * Prepare and conduct user trainings
Ideal Candidate
**Required Qualifications** * Bachelor’s degree in computer science, science, mathematics, engineering, or information systems from an accredited institution * Minimum of 1 year full-time professional experience in Linux systems administration * Proven experience as an application programmer * Experience with virtualized environment administration such as VMWare * Demonstrated experience with Python and BASH * Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to interact with clients and collaborators * Ability to work well individually and in a team environment * Ability to manage, prioritize, and complete multiple projects/tasks in an efficient and timely manner meeting strict timelines, project deadlines and objectives * Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information/data * US Citizenship required **Preferred Qualifications** Greater consideration will be given to those who possess one or more of the following skills: * Master’s degree in a technical/quantitative field from an accredited institution * Experience with large environmental data set analysis * Experience working with development tools and software applications * Experience with Javascript * Experience with web frameworks, e.g. Django * Experience administering and developing for Big Data platforms, e.g. the Hadoop ecosystem * Experience in three or more of: shell programming, SQL database administration, network administration, systems hardware maintenance, electronics, instrumentation, CAD.
