Teaching Residency Program Director

Founded in 2005 and opening our first school in 2006, Democracy Prep set out to prove what is possible for public education in America. Ten years later, we started the 2015-16 school year with 17 schools and one program delivering transformational results to more than 5,000 scholars across the country.

This is an opportunity to design a world class teacher training program. Our goal is to provide a pathway into a career as a teacher at a Democracy Prep school. We’re looking for someone excited to make that vision into a reality! You’ll work directly with our Vice President of Talent Development to create the program and will have the support of our recruitment team in identifying and onboarding our inaugural class of Democracy Prep Teaching Residents.

* Design, develop, and manage program at network level * Plan and coordinate professional development for Teaching Residents * Mentor individual teachers in a targeted manner, to drive scholar’s success * Design and execute promotion criteria for teacher training program * Track, analyze, and act upon teacher training program related data * Support Recruitment Team in hiring for teacher training program * Serve as liaison between Democracy Prep and graduate school partner * Support schools in implementation of teacher training program * Coordinate professional development for mentor teachers to ensure strong management and support of teachers * Ensure program fidelity on school site: each teacher has a mentor teacher, is gradually gaining teaching responsibilities, is being observed and coached * Check in regularly with school leaders and mentor teachers to track progress of program and provide support * Identify best practices at individual schools and share across the network

* Bachelor’s degree * Clear track record of raising student achievement in an urban classroom for at least four years * Experience coaching new teachers and/or creating and leading professional development preferred * Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Democracy Prep
