Summary
The OR Attendant assists the nursing and anesthesia staff in patient care through transport of patients, environmental sanitation, and the retrieval and/or disposition of supplies and equipment. Provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. Practice will be in accordance with laws and regulations and will adhere to established policies, procedures and practice guidelines.
Responsibilities
* Transports patients as directed. * Transports specimens when needed. * Transports blood for transfusions. * Sets up hip fracture tables, Beach Chair, Hip Arthroscopy, and other equipment when needed. * Assists with patient positioning and restraint when needed. * Monitors progression of procedures so that correct patient bed is available with clean linen and a full tank of oxygen at the appropriate time. * Responsible for cleaning of each OR suite between procedures (trash, linen, wet mopping, suction). * Assists with restocking sub sterile areas (water, saline, sheets, suction canisters, infection gowns, etc). * Assists with maintaining unsterile storage area. * Demonstrates willingness and cooperation with the surgical team. * Participates in continuous quality improvement teams and activities. * Participates in supporting the organization’s vision, mission and values and adheres to DeKalb Medical Standards of Behavior. * Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of DeKalb Medical.
Ideal Candidate
Minimum Education, Experience and Licensure Required: * High school graduate or equivalent * BLS Healthcare Provider certification * Able to follow directions * Able to respond quickly to assigned task Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: * Skill and ability to communicate verbally, including public-speaking, and in writing * Skill and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities within a fast-paced environment * Skill and ability to anticipate, manage, and adapt to change * Skill and ability to operate independently and collaboratively as part of a team * Skill and ability to manage internal and external relationships * Skill and ability to lead and take initiative * Performs skills and competencies as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist if applicable. * Demonstrates and maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
