Summary
This applications engineering position supports the Cree Durham Technology Center (DTC) application engineering team from both a pre-sales and post-sales perspective. This position focuses on engineering ownership of projects, driving them through to completion.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include testing of luminaires for thermal, electrical, mechanical, photometric and optical (TEMPO) properties, report generation, retrofitting and improving existing customer designs, creating qualification plans, and improving processes surrounding LED usability. This engineer must be a resourceful problem solver who is able to work around technical obstacles and will be adept at the implementation of practical testing solutions to multiple application engineering projects under tight customer deadlines.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications:** * BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related technical field. * Ability to own engineering projects and proactively drive them through to completion. * Experience in analog electronics with working knowledge of passive component testing, power semiconductor performance, thermal and electrical testing and qualification. * Ability to troubleshoot analog and digital circuits with equipment such as; oscilloscopes, power meters, AC and DC power supplies and multimeters. * Extensive experience generating technical reports or white papers, i.e., a skilled technical writer. * Proficient with MS Office tools including Excel and Word. Experience writing technical reports. * Ability to work independently and be self-sufficient while knowing when to ask for help. * Team minded and enjoys working as a team player. * 40 hour work week and willingness to support overtime when required. * Self-starter with strong personal work ethic. Must have a “whatever it takes” attitude. * Ability to work multiple projects against tight deadlines. **Preferred Qualifications:** * Experience with LED products and solid state lighting. * Photometric testing experience (i.e. – integrating sphere, goniophotometer) preferred but not required. * Preferred but not required, experience with the assembly of printed circuit board, using volume production surface mount pick-and-place machines.
