Summary
Writer/blogger should be able to recognize breaking news and trends related to college sports and originate ideas for content. Must be able to write on deadline and quickly produce content for online in various forms. Writer must actively seek creative and innovative ways to promote the recruiting blog and its content and brand including outside appearances. Person must be comfortable communicating in public, and may be called upon for on-air (radio and television) appearances.
Responsibilities
* Report and write with a strong sense of urgency, energy and tenacity. * Show clear understanding and ability to execute enterprise stories, using public records and databases as well as burning shoe leather and building a superior source list. * Has a keen awareness of issues and topics people are talking about and takes a strong stand in his/her writing. Stays up-to-date on recruiting and emerging trends. * Engages and embraces the community through frequent posts online, pieces in print and appearances in other media. * Builds a loyal following because of his/her unique voice and viewpoint. * Understands the unique properties of a blog and digital audience and uses those to their advantage to build a loyal community of readers. * Write clearly and authoritatively, with sophistication, absolute accuracy and balance, all while doing it on deadline and in a variety of technology tools and social media platforms. * Writes cleanly and quickly off news events, with little or no editing required for blog posts and short stories with SEO-effective headlines to drive audience engagement. Produces content using opinions and expertise on a variety of topics within recruiting field. * Consistently initiates and executes new ideas to drive traffic, enhance his/her ""personality"" and build recruiting community. * Demonstrate strong research skills, including knowledge of digital search tools and techniques. * Manage time effectively, juggling long-term and short-term work. Consistently meets deadlines set for print and digital needs, including advance deadlines. * Monitors site metrics and produces content to maximize traffic potential. * Collaborates effectively with others. * Communicate and work effectively with a team of SEC reporters. * Use or learn content management and other publishing tools for the production and digital display of stories on multiple platforms. * Produce smartphone photos and videos and collect data and other information for maps, charts and other supplemental content. * Comfortable in a public setting, making public appearances. * Understand state and federal sunshine laws. * Have a clear understanding of libel law and able to recognize and flag potential legal issues that could expose the AJC to litigation over libel, invasion of privacy, copyright or other issues.
Ideal Candidate
**Requirements:** * Bachelor's degree preferred. * Seven to 10 years or more of reporting experience. * Demonstrated strong news judgment. * Ability to create content to meet audience needs across print and digital platforms. * Strong ability to organize, analyze, interpret and disseminate information. * Flexibility in shift starting times and in work location. * Have reliable transportation, or access to reliable transportation. **Additional Requirements:** * Results-oriented approach to work, with proven track record * Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written * Looking to fill positions in the Southeast
