Summary

The Market Development Manager, Bakery will contribute to the development, communication and execution of the bakery strategy as part of a cross functional industry team. They will contribute in shaping the strategic direction for the bakery business and ensuring its execution and success internally and externally. This position will work with established marketing, product management, regulatory, operations, R&D, and other functional teams. Roles may include project management, business development.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development, communication and execution of medium and long term strategy
  • Contribute to the realization of industry business targets
  • Identify sustainable technology solution opportunities.
    • Existing technology into new applications at key accounts
    • Existing technology through new channel partners (distributors, specialists, agents etc)
    • New technology (from industry partners and/or universities and institutes) into existing key accounts
    • New technology through new channel partners (distributors, specialists, agents etc)
    • Recommending acquisition targets through fully developed proposals
  • Lead the onboarding process for new technologies and solutions, including working closely with legal, regulatory, marketing, communications, product management and operations.
  • Provide key data, technology attributes, and market intel to support the bakery industry team in the development of value propositions and sales tools (including target price setting).
  • Monitor & analyze relevant market developments and competitors for the bakery industry, including traveling with sales to gain direct market insights and feedback on potential solutions.
  • Evaluate commercial relevance of new pipeline opportunities in line with strategy.
  • Train sales team on products and technology.
  • Represent the business at various industry conferences and promotional opportunities including customer visits with Sales and RDA when needed.

Scope

Primarily North America with progression to other target regions per strategy.

Planning process

Contribute to a yearly business strategy (within the overall Food business) to grow existing and new business with customers and by channel. Planning horizon: 3-5 years

Reporting responsibilities

The Market Development Manager, Bakery is based in Lenexa and will report into the Senior Industry Director, Global Bakery. The Market Development Manager, Bakery has no direct reports but 2 indirect reports.

Ideal Candidate

Education

Preferably Master’s degree in bakery or food science, or business. Technical experience with bakery ingredients preferred.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 year’s experience in commercial, marketing, or business development positions in a regional or international context. You are able to handle the complexity of a matrix organization. You are hands-on, a self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and a team player.
