Summary

Researches, conducts experiments, gathers data, develops preliminary findings and prepares written reports for the development of new products beginning at conception through successful commercialization. Follows established protocols and work plans. Reviews technical proposals and reports.

Responsibilities
  • Able to plan, prioritize and complete tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Learns and utilizes on-line specification system and internal product development steps and databases.
  • Executes experiments and prepare results for internal review or external presentations.
  • Using consumer insights, conceptualizes and develops new product prototypes.
  • Initiates innovation concepts (possibly blue sky) for proposal to consumer tests.
  • Observes, report and utilizes market place, customers, consumers and culinary trends.
  • Transfers ideas from one market channel to the other.
  • Formulates new products to match the ingredient statement, nutritional profile, cost and product attributes of the target product.
  • Uses sensory tools to optimize product formulation.
  • Develops and documents the process for the manufacture of the product.
  • Identifies and executes key product quality, stability and safety testing protocols.
  • Properly documents activities, conclusions and recommendations in lab notebook.
  • Develops project timelines that are acceptable to management, marketing and R&I manager.
  • Develops finished product and processing specifications.
  • Conducts plant trials and new product start ups.
  • Collaborates with Engineering/Packaging/ Operations/ QA and Marketing and our customers to meet project deadlines.
Ideal Candidate

Position Requirements:

  • B.S. in Food Science or related field required plus a minimum of 7 years work experience
  • M.S. in Food Science or related field plus 5 years work experience
  • Ph.D. in Food Science or related field plus 3 years work experience
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Sporadic to frequent travel, including flying to all parts of the U.S., possibly overseas, and driving a company or rental automobile 4 to 6 hours as needed. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative.
