Summary
Responsible for all phases of assigned standard engineering projects, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost. Collaborates with other department or functional leaders and performs analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components. Prepares or secures and reviews cost estimates, complies required cost and equipment information, and writes appropriate requests. Originates formal project requests. Investigates problems and requirements of projects, and develops plans for solutions in line with economic, personnel, and environmental considerations.
Responsibilities
* This position is responsible for all aspects of project work including; design, CIR Write-ups, developing contractor bid packages, overseeing project installation, cost tracking, training and startup assistance as well as post project support. Other duties include working with maintenance team leaders and managers on plant issues, maintaining a contractor safety program, supporting process safety management program, and developing and maintaining the long term capital plan. The individual that is selected for this position will work closely with the plant engineering manager, the corporate engineering group, plant staff and production staff. In addition, this position will directly supervise an Engineering Technician as well as mentor and coach the Associate Process Engineer position. The Project Engineer will be responsible to maintain skills as required for the position. **Capital Plan** * The project engineer will own the capital plan and coordinate its execution with support from the Engineering Manager and Plant Manager. This includes creation of the three year capital plan with support from the capital committee. Position will be responsible for ownership and creation of all presentation sheets and support documents related to this plan. The Project Engineer will drive conversation in the capital presentation for specifics on projects presented or in plan throughout the year in the spirit of strong collaboration. **New Project Initiation** * The Project Engineer will develop a strong working relationship with plant leaders and drive brain storming and ideation sessions for projects that support growth and continuous improvement within the Quincy plant. Work will be completed with support of the maintenance department to ensure our plant has high priority maintenance capitals prioritized properly within the capital plan. The Project Engineer will hold overall responsibility for these types of projects with support and collaboration from the person requesting the project. There is an expectation that these projects be discussed with the plant capital committee during monthly capital meetings. **Monthly Meetings** * Monthly capital meetings will be chaired and organized by the Project Engineer with a formal agenda. A project update will be communicated to the plant capital committee one week prior to these scheduled meetings. There is an expectation that the plant capital committee review the project update list and are prepared to discuss any questions in the monthly meeting. **Project Preparation** * The Project Engineer is expected to identify scope and estimate costs at an FEL 1 level for all projects presented in the three year plan. These will be completed in a timely manner for plant management review. The Project Engineer is responsible for all capital projects in the capital plan. In the event a project is assigned to another Quincy team member, the Project Engineer is responsible for review and corrections on the capital project and should act as a coach and mentor for others in the inter-workings of the plant capital program. Capitals are due to the Engineering Manager by the first day of the submittal month for review. They are expected to be complete and thoroughly reviewed. Capitals must be submitted timely in accordance with the capital project schedule, including all necessary supporting documentation. **Plant Support** * The Project Engineer is expected to help support the plant as directed by the Engineering Manager. This may include on call support for operations, as well as supporting training or other initiatives related to capital project ownership. **Project Execution** * The Project Engineer is expected to execute all projects in a timely manner. Coordination of events and project work timelines will be discussed with Production and QA departments to assure installation does not interfere with operations. There is an expectation that project spending is closely controlled and monitored and any concerns or deviations are communicated to the Engineering Manger including the cause(s). The Project Engineer is responsible to coordinate plant contractor activities with the plant with support from the Engineering Manager and Plant Manager. The Project Engineer will support the development of operational procedures in conjunction with the CSD coordinator and plant operational staff. **General** * The Project Engineer position is responsible to assure accuracy in their work. Often times, capital projects occur around holidays and weekends and require this position to be present or on call during some of these times. The incumbent in this position must possess the ability to operate with a high level of accuracy, have the ability to multi-task between multiple projects in varying phases of the plan and promote teamwork and collaboration from the plant leadership team.
Ideal Candidate
- 4 Year Degree in Engineering Discipline (Mechanical Preferred) - Excellent Computer Skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - AutoCAD experience desirable - Experience in SAP desirable - 2 Year Project Management Experience - Experience in manufacturing environment strongly desired
