About CommonBond
CommonBond is building the leading values-driven, customer-centric financial services company and is looking for people who want to help our company grow. Our mission starts by tackling the broken student lending market and changing the way people think about student loans. We accomplish this with lower interest rates for our borrowers, a state-of-the art technology platform, and high-touch customer service.
Summary
We are looking for a senior-level UX designer to join our team. A core piece of the value proposition CommonBond offers to borrowers, in addition to savings, service, and social good, is simplicity – our team works hard to craft an exceptional and easy-to-use site and application experience for our visitors. We’re extremely passionate about creating a user experience that is different than what is seen in traditional finance or banking. We’ve done a lot already and are looking for a UX expert who can push our platforms even further. In this role, there is no shortage of opportunity. You will be looked at not only as a UX designer, but a creative thought leader in the organization who will help drive our borrower experience practice. We’re looking for an innovative designer, thinker, and problem solver who is interested in driving small and large-scale design solutions. You will be responsible for planning and proposing solutions for a wide variety of user experience challenges including, but not limited to, layout and information design on multiple mobile devices and responsive screen sizes, user research and user testing. This role will work closely with both the design and product departments – we’re looking for someone with excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills who can also create strong illustrations and visual images to communicate complex systems.
Responsibilities
* Auditing and improvement. You will proactively find opportunities to improve our design strategy to better address user objectives. You will make sure the information we’re communicating onsite is structured in a way that ensures the cleanest, clearest experience * User research and testing. You’ve conducted and participated in user testing and are able to turn feedback into design-centric solutions. You use user data, analytics and business requirements to drive decision-making * You can quickly communicate ideas visually to a range of stakeholders in the company * Journey mapping. You know how to work within the full context of a user’s experience * You’ll solidify ideas to present for multiple devices and platforms. You can also write easy-to-understand specifications that will be passed off to our developers for build * You can rapidly bring experiences to life * You’ll work closely across multiple departments, including design, product, engineering, marketing, and ops
Ideal Candidate
* A minimum of 5 years as a user experience designer or similar role * A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions. Experience with mobile apps, mobile-web, and responsive design on desktop * Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques * Visual design expertise demonstrated through strong mockups and solid style guides * Data-driven and analytical, with experience in A/B and user testing * Experience working with a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and working directly with developers for the implementation of designs * Desire to work in a start-up environment, where iteration is encouraged. You are able to translate product requirements into mocks/design quickly * Roll-up-your-sleeves mentality. We are a small team – everyone including our executive team gets their hands dirty to get stuff done * Sense of urgency. You want to go, move, make things happen, and shake things up * Expert multi-tasking. You can manage multiple urgent projects at once. You will remain undaunted, organized and juggle these projects without letting the ball drop. You know how to ruthlessly prioritize your time * Team player. You want to be relied upon and you understand how others make your goals achievable * Experience working with a multi-step application is a plus * Coding experience is a big plus – HTML, CSS, JavaScript * Bachelor’s degree
