Responsibilities
**Advertised Summary Job Description** * Reporting to the Director of Distributed Systems, Manhattanville Operations, the Assistant Director of Building Automation & Controls (AD) is responsible for the operation, maintenance and system efficiency of the multiple control systems including but not limited to the Building Management System (BMS), plant Scada system, lighting controls, and shade control systems. The AD assists the managers, mechanics and technicians in the daily operation and maintenance of these systems and performs daily checks, runs system diagnostics and maintains system back-ups as well as the integrity of the different networks, including servers, PLC's, controllers, and field installed equipment and workstations. This position develops and maintains the preventive maintenance system, security access, and performs system programming as necessary for improvements and customization. The AD makes recommendations for energy efficiency improvements and works on the continuous commissioning of the campus control systems. Provide monthly KPI (key performance indicators) to executive staff for the various systems. * The AD provides a high level interface between the various system platforms and their sharing of data and the creation of real time reporting of energy usage and system collaborations. Assists in the Metering and Validation component via the buildings BMS systems. * The AD directs the diagnosis and correction of HVAC and other system anomalies. Oversees the implementation of control system projects to ensure compliance and conformance with University's standards, including interfacing with contractors on new/retrofit installations, implementation and commissioning. Works with CUIT to troubleshoot any interfacing issues with their network and the various systems using the CUIT network, as well as maintain the district energy system network. Full management and control over the independent SCADA system, controlling the CEP equipment and its' compliment of PLC's. Maintains a close relationship with controls personnel, to include tuning and calibration. Provides and maintains limited data access to clients which rely on the control systems for data and trending. * The AD oversees the activities of contractors and suppliers, monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs, monitors general expenditure of the units and performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards. The AD completes purchase orders and monitors all expenses, codes and submits invoices for payment to the finance office. Controls department operating expenses and develops monitoring standards, cost analysis, auditing programs and reports. Solicit bids for maintenance contracts, construction projects and participates in the selection of contractors. Obtain bids for capital improvement as needed. * The AD works closely with the Director of the Distributed Systems, the Director of the District Energy Systems and the Director of the Electrical Systems to provide a highly reliable environment, and seamless service to the clients as well as supporting other departments, events, and activities as required. Provide a high level of communication between departments and clients. He / She oversees staff development, mentorship and training including compliance with certifications and licensing. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
**Minimum Qualifications for Grade** * Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree desirable. * Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience required. **Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications** * Minimum five years hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of SCADA control systems and/or Building Automation Systems. * Five to seven years experience in power plant, complex research or similar facility preferred. * Knowledgeable in the operation and control of Central Energy Plants. * Must be able to interpret blueprints, diagrams and system manuals. * Must have a thorough knowledge of direct digital control systems, PLC's and Scade systems. * Good analytical, writing and interpersonal skills required. * Must have thorough knowledge of OS/2, DOS, DDC controls and programming, and communication networks/protocols. **Preferred Qualifications** * Knowledge of Siemens Desigo BMS systems and/or Allen Bradley PLC controls a plus. * Five to seven years experience in power plant, complex research or similar facility preferred.
