About College for Creative Studies
CCS is a private college of art and design located in midtown Detroit that offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in 12 majors and Master of Fine Arts degrees in two programs.
Responsibilities
- Teach three classes per semester during the academic year in the full range of product design, including studio courses, research-based sponsored projects, skills-based courses, and sustainable and environmentally responsible design processes. - Advise undergraduate students with a focus in product design. The faculty member works closely with the chair to improve and implement course content and to promote the program and its graduates on a national level. - Additional responsibilities include cultivating and maintaining strong relationships within the local and national product and industrial design industries, and assisting with developing resources for the department. - Continued professional activity and growth and service at the department, college, and professional community are also required.
Ideal Candidate
- Applicants must possess a terminal degree (MFA or an equivalent degree) in Product or Industrial Design. (Candidates with an undergraduate degree and substantial professional experience and demonstrable skills may also be considered.) - Candidates are expected to be active, practicing professionals with a distinguished record of excellence in product design and leadership ability, and should possess a strong desire to make significant contributions to the design practice and education. - Minimum of five years professional experience in design practice and research - Minimum of two years college teaching experience - Solid 2D/3D visualization skills - Communication storytelling and problem-solving skills - A understanding of traditional design principles and of the emerging opportunities in the area of interaction, entrepreneurship, and social innovation - Preference given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge and commitment to design issues related to sustainable processes, participatory design, and research projects.
